About Me
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and Finance at the City University of Hong Kong. Before joining CityU, I was a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Finance at the John Molson School of Business, Concordia University, in Canada.
My research explores the dynamic interplay between corporate finance and external institutional factors. I investigate how corporations adapt their investment and financing strategies in response to institutional changes, integrating disciplines such as law, political science, and environmental studies. My specific areas of interest include debt covenants, law and finance, political risk, multinational corporations, taxation, ESG practices, and household finance.
In addition to my research, I serve as Co-director of the EMBA (Chinese) program and Co-director of the joint EMBA-MPA program with Tsinghua University. In the classroom, I teach “Corporate Finance” and “Sustainable Finance” across various academic levels, ranging from undergraduate to executive education. I am also deeply committed to doctoral education, supervising students in the Ph.D., DBA (English), and IDBA (Chinese) programs.
I hold a Ph.D. in Finance from Rutgers University, a Master’s degree in Finance from Renmin University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Investment with a minor in Law from the Central University of Finance and Economics.
