Niejiri National Park opened November 6th, 2002 I, as the second national park of the Empire of Yata. The park includes a portion of marsh supplied by a natural reservoir of water in turn supplied by monsoon rains and ground water. The main attraction of the park is the reservoir itself. The park is frequented by birds including peacocks, spoonbills, ducks, water hens and other migratory birds. Animals that frequent this place include deer, wild boars, blue cows, leopards monekys. Once can also spot aquatic animals like turtles, crabs, fishes and snakes.
Niejiri National Park lies about one kilometer away from Imperial Residence. It can be reached by vehicle or by hiking via the Shirahashira-Niejiri Highway. Food facilities are available. Open 24 hours a day, however tours in evenings are preferred.
