Overview: Ordering Loyalties examines via mixed methods how China's central-local politics of redistribution and information stratify the multi-layered state authorities in the mass public’s political perceptions, allegiances, and actions, thereby structurally entrenching top-down authoritarian rule. It contributes to a new avenue where the comparative studies of authoritarianism, intergovernmental relations, and mass politics intersect.
