I am the Richard M. Kessler Professor of Economic Studies and Associate Professor of Economics at Colgate University, where I also direct the Asian Studies Program.
My research uses empirical and experimental methods to study how public policy and market design shape household decisions, with a focus on education. Much of my recent work examines centralized college admissions and school choice in China: how matching mechanisms, information access, and the way student performance is measured determine which students end up where, and what that means for equality of opportunity. Recently, I have been working on a project that documents changes in charter school laws across U.S. states and studying their effects on education markets and student outcomes.
