日本語クラブに所属していたが、英語も勉強したいと考えたため。

英語クラブでは英語力的にハードルが高過ぎる場合に、日本語も使える環境で安心できる。

英語を1日1時間勉強する習慣が身についた。

1. What brought you to Toastmasters?
I wanted to improve my public speaking skills and was trying out various methods. I came across Toastmasters through the internet.
2. Why did you decide on Yamanote?
Initially, I visited the club because it was the closest one to my home. I decided to join because of the welcoming and congenial atmosphere, and the members who come from different backgrounds but gather to help each other achieve their goals. The fact that it was a well established club with some long standing members was another supporting factor.
3. What are the advantages of a bilingual club?
Conducting the meetings in both English and Japanese helps train myself to switch between communicating in these languages, which is a situation I encounter often in my job. I also think if anyone is less confident in one or the other language, a bilingual club offers a comfortable environment to practice.
4. How has joining Yamanote affected your daily life?
Toastmasters has done wonders for me. It goes without saying that I have built up my self confidence speaking in front of audiences large and small, be it a prepared presentation or an impromptu speech. I think the program has also helped me be a better communicator at work, at home and in my other circles. What started as a simple desire to improve my public speaking skills has opened my eyes to so much more. On top of that, I never expected the network in Japan and abroad to be so strong. It is an amazing organization and my only regret is that I didn't discover it earlier in my life!
5. A word of advice for those considering visiting or joining Yamanote!
I know it requires courage to take the first step and visit a Toastmasters club for the very first time. I've been there, I know. In that sense, the size of Yamanote is just right, unlike some clubs with 50+ members. A visitor will quickly find our meeting has a lively atmosphere yet is comfortable participating and speaking, surrounded and supported by like-minded people. But seeing is believing. If you want to build your confidence to speak in any situation, be a good communicator and leader at work, at home or in your local society, I really recommend trying it out.

You can practice speeches and evaluations in both English and Japanese.
4. How has joining Yamanote affected your daily life?
Gained a DTM (Distinguished ToastMasters: one of the ranks members obtain from the learning programs of Toastmasters) that helped me to get more confidence at home and work.
