Nthuziast's Yamaha Music Siren Site
The YAMAHA Music Siren is a device made by YAMAHA Corporation in Hamamatsu, Japan. The first known instance was in 1950 on top of YAMAHA's main factory in Hamamatsu, Japan. Production ceased in 1998 due to noise complaints and the rise of the watch rendering the music siren virtually useless since the music sirens were mostly used to tell the time.
There are two generations that work in different ways-
1st Generation - uses electromagnets to lower an arm which opens a damper. (1950-1989)
2nd Generation - uses air pneumatics to rotate an arm that opens a damper. (1989-1998)
