Melayu, the style

In general, the traditional Malay style originates from the Malayu Kingdom and the Srivijaya emipre, which were located in the northern half of Sumatra. This is the basic form or style which permeates most of peninsula Malaya, especially on the west coast.

The 1931 image on the right shows a typical baju melayu attire, which has not really changed today. In this case, these were the princes of Deli, Serdang and Langkat from Sumatra visiting the World Colonial Exhibition in Paris 1931. [source- Wereld Museum Netherlands & WikiCommons]
