I know some people feel watching TV shows or movies is a waste of time, and while I acknowledge the fact that movies can be a distraction sometimes, I must admit that I always seem to learn a lot from the series I watch.
I've been watching a particular series for over 6 months now because I don't have the luxury to sit with a series for long durations at a stretch. But when I find the time, I sit down to watch an episode or two. The series is titled The Good Doctor, and although it is a medical series, it does not leave me confused or bored. The show is emotional and inspiring, and each episode has its lessons that can be applied to our daily lives.
The show is about a brilliant surgeon with autism and savant syndrome. At the beginning of his career, he faced prejudice and countless challenges on account of his "limitations" but his determination to succeed, coupled with the help of someone who believed in him made him overcome those challenges.
Here are a few lessons I learnt from the show:
1. The challenges you face, or your "limitations" can't stop you from succeeding if you don't give in to them.
2. Kindness should never be underrated, one good act can go a long way.
3. Diversity makes teams stronger, embrace diversity.
4. Growth can be uncomfortable sometimes, but you shouldn't give up on growing.
5. Failure should be seen as an occurrence to learn from.
