We have created a teaching program for this Unit of Work on the topic in stage 6 of the mathematics syllabus for year 11 on "Exponential and Logarithmic Functions". This Unit of Work involves six lessons and covers many outcomes for the students from the topic including the logarithm function, logarithm laws and applications, the exponential function and natural logarithms, and graphing of exponential and logarithmic functions. In the six lesson we focus on teaching from the start of this topic. The six lessons cover content from E1.1 to the beginning of E1.4, where the last 5 content descriptors of E1.4 are not taught. These lessons help to support the students to complete the alternative assessment we have created for this Unit of Work.
We have collaborated and engaged as a group to include a wide range of teaching strategies across our lessons for the benefit of the students, but also to focus on providing real life examples across all lessons. Providing real life examples in our lessons helps to engage students and help them understand how these concepts are connected to real life and how they can apply and understand them in the world. We have also integrated ICT across our lessons to allows students to learn and engage with concepts more effectively. Following along from Puentedura’s SAMR model, we looked to ways to use technology that would enhance students learning and allow significant task redesign (O’Connor, 2021). This includes the use of graphing software and various websites to engage learners.
