Recapitulate: To start aptitude preparation, one should be very clear about the concepts of basic mathematics which are generally taught till class 10. That is enough as most of the aptitude tests conducted for various exams follow topics till that level. So if one is not very clear or needs to just revisit them once, it is the first step to do. Take up some maths book for class 9 or 10 and go through the chapters. After going through it once, you should be feeling more confident about attempting questions. One very important thing - Please don't directly jump to solving questions and that too of high difficulty. One should be very strategic and planned because many a times it happens that students jump directly to questions. That doesn't help always until you are very good at it. So for starting just go through the concepts and try to recapitulate things. Then start solving some basic problems from the same book till you are quite fast and accurate at solving the basic questions. Only after this you should jump to Next level.
Correct Study Materials : One should be careful about the study materials to be taken for practice and it should be also done depending upon the type of exams one is planning to take. I am emphasizing on this point again to start with Quantitative Aptitude Quantum Cat - it's not very advanced and will be able to provide you with basic formulations and quant techniques. Maintain a rigorous schedule and practice a chapter every day. Revise topics and solve problems periodically.

Analyzing weakness and strengths : This is very crucial as it helps to eliminate questions in exams and select the right question to attempt. One should be able to analyze the topics in which he is a bit weak and the topics in which he has an edge. This is not very difficult as after regular practice one can easily know the respective topics. After the analysis our aim should be to focus on the weak topics such that at least the easy ones from those could be solved if not the difficult ones. But in addition to that you should be so strong in the topics which you believe you are strong in that you should be able to solve difficult questions with accuracy.
Smart Work: Gone are the days when people used to say "Hard work is the key to success" . Now it's " Smart Work is key to success". One should be Smart enough to utilize his time and preparing in a smart way. Smart way refers to Practicing what is required. Aptitude doesn't mean you have to be a great mathematician. You need to be smart. One doesn't have to know all the topics thoroughly. There are always some topics which are given more preference than others. Try conquering those topics.
PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE : Finally it all comes down to Practice. All the above said things are of no use without practice. Aptitude needs regular practice. Follow it Diligently.
