The 4th International Workshop on XR Solutions for Smart Production (XR-SPro '25)
Oct. 8, 2025 in Daejeon, South Korea, in conjunction with ISMAR 2025 (held physically on site in Daejeon)
Description
Industry 5.0 is set to revolutionize the manufacturing industry by transitioning research and innovation to human-centric, sustainable, and resilient approaches. This new production paradigm benefits from extended reality (XR) technologies in every stage of the product life cycle. XR can enable remote collaboration on product designs and workflows, as well as on-the-job training and coaching tailored to the work context and the expertise levels of individual workers. These systems can support the designs of safer factories and the optimization of production lines with a human-centered perspective. They also increase workers' competence and efficiency by providing sustainable, yet resilient methods.
This workshop – XR Solutions for Smart Production (XR-SPro) – aims to identify the current state, gaps, and future directions of XR research in the context of smart production. XR-SPro will build a community to bring together researchers and designers from academia and industry in XR and manufacturing.
The goals of this workshop are:
Exchange ideas and discuss opportunities and challenges across disciplines and between academia and industry
Promote collaborative research
Generate source material for future interdisciplinary work
This year, we focus on work augmentation with human-centered engineering. The rapid development of AI technology has revolutionized manufacturing in quality, process optimization, sustainability & energy, and supply chain management. Still, several issues remain, such as automation without proper human-centered insights, reduced human skill retention, hallucination, data privacy, etc..
How can we augment the performance of the manufacturing workforce with the aid of a human-centered XR+AI approach?
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
Human-centered Engineering
Industrial Metaverse
Integration of XR hardware/software to support innovative production
XR+AI for Smart Manufacturing
Haptics for Manufacturing Applications
Augmented Humans for Manufacturing
XR for Industrial Training and Education
XR for Remote Assistance & Collaboration
XR for Computer-Assisted Design (CAD)
XR for Factory layout, Production planning, and Optimization
XR for Human-Machine Interface
XR for Visualization of Sensor and Process Data
Digital Twins for Manufacturing Applications
We invite authors to submit research, replication, position, and work-in-progress papers.
