In X-Plane, you produce your own 3d models and textures to develop custom sceneries and aircraft. Since X-Plane v9, object based add-ons becomes more commonplace and the era of plane-maker based visuals becomes obsolete. X-Plane developers uses many types of software for 3D modelling, with Laminar Research officially supporting two modelling programs with X-Plane specific plugins: Inivis AC3D, and Blender. 3rd party plugins are produced to support using 3DS Max and Maya.
