I just switched to xmr-stak miner after the nicehash debacle. Is there a way to turn off the CPU mining portion? I have turned it to the low power mode, but still would like to be able to turn off the CPU mining for when I'm using my computer (whereas the GPU mining doesn't effect my computer performance at all)

Q: Why guys that say they want decentralisation want everyone to use one miner?

A: Because just like privacy it is just an empty marketing slogan, with no relation to what community leaders actually want.

Q: Are you just stealing from xmrig?

A: It is a popular Monero propaganda line. Xmr-stak has been around for much longer than xmrig. They copied xmr-stak code [ 1 ]. We didn't complain - that's the point of free and open source software. Xmrig developer actively pushed free xmr-stak versions - and when we made xmr-stak-rx free, he decided it has a virus ? [ 2 ]. If you feel that this kind of guy deserves your financial support, we are nice enough to put the link on the front page.

This release improves the hashrate for windows, linux and fixes a few bugs.

Under linux it is possible to increase the hashrate by using 1 GiB pages, check our tuning guide for more information

ArQmA can now be mind by choosing the currency arqma or the algorithm randomx_arqma.

The miner contains no dev fee of any kind.

This release fixes the a bunch of bugs and brings a lot of optimizations for the GPU POW cryptonight_gpu.

Monero is removed from the supported currencies and can now be miner with xmr-stak-rx (separate release).

We strongly suggest to switch to this release.

... helps to switch from Monero cryptonight_r to randomX automatically during the fork.

rx-switcher is killing all xmr-stak instances on your system and starts automatically xmr-stak-rx as soon as the Monero network is forking to the POW randomX.

ATTENTION: If you are using xmr-stak instances to mine other coins those instances will be closed too.

If you do not like to mine Monero/RandomX after the fork with your GPU start xmr-stak-rx once before the fork and let the miner create the amd.txt and/or nvidia.txt configurations. Edit both files and set "gpu_threads_conf" : [ ], to disable the gpus.

I'm mining monero with xmr-stak-rx because it is free and I'm getting the same hashrate as compare to Xmrig. I think Xmrig is a good miner but I like something free like xmr-stak-rx to mine monero. I don't see any problem yet with xmr-stak-rx but what is wrong with people who always keep on saying use Xmrig only. It is a matter of choice everyone is free to use what he likes.

XMR-Stak is CryptoNight oriented miner for CPUs, AMD, and Nvidia GPUs. It can be used on both Windows and Linux mining operation systems and it supports various CryptoNight based algorithms for mining different coins. There is a default 2% dev fee implemented in this miner, but developers allow you to change it by editing the donate-level.hpp before building the binaries.

Where can I find instructions for installing XMR-stak CPU on Ubuntu 18.04. I notice every one are having issues with their graphic cards, however I just want to use my CPU. That being said I am still having issues installing and or loading the program on Ubuntu.

You can find instructions on xmr-stak repository itself.

You should basically download the ubuntu/debian release, extract the file, and launch the miner through cli.

It does auto configuration on the first launch IIRC.

Lesson Learned 2. This was taking a very long time so wanting to mine Monero I downloaded the XMR-Stak-RX-x64 and installed. I also downloaded and attempted to install other miners but they seemed to fail, now I know, they are command line applications not gui's, so will try again at another time.

Lesson learned 4. Fiddled with the cpu thread activation and found a sweet spot that did not hurt my old 2 intel E5-2643v2 processors to much. Installed a better CPU cooler to keep temperatures down a bit. XMR-stak-rx will use 100% of each assigned core.

Question: Lesson to learn 6. - Wallet now updated with the full block chain and will allow p2pool mining without having to run any other miners. So it seems, but the direction pages seem to indicate I still need to run XMRig miner, though initial testing seems to indicate that is no longer required as all the mining is done in the wallet GUI. Please let me know if I am wrong here. This is where I am confused. Wallet GUI seems to be capable of mining p2pool without having to install anything else as monerod is already included, unless I put it in the install folder manually, for simplicity. But it does not look like I need to run it separately to the wallet.

I don't have any commitments until March, so until then I will be working nearly full time on developing software for Monero. My immediate goal is to put both GPU miners on top of my networking code.

CryptoNight algorithm was formerly ASIC resistant. After the recent release of ASICs, coins like Monero and Electroneum has announced that they will hard fork to V7 (Monero Hard Fork Countdown). They will be switching PoW to CryptoNight V7 to combat ASIC machines. While they are on their way; coins like Stellite, Aeon and few others have already forked to CryprtoNightV7. For this particular V7 algorithm the only miner that is currently available is Stack-XMR. So in addition to configuring xmr stak this guide should also help you get started with mining cryptonight V7 algorithm.

Then password which is mostly empty. Then Rig identifier for pool side statistics which is optional. Next pool port support option (TLS/SSL), just enter n. Nicehash; definitely No. Multiple pools; No. Once this list is complete your miner will connect to the pool and should start mining the coin which you chose. Also it will create 3 more additional files in the folder such as cpu.txt, nvidia.txt or amd.txt and pools.txt.

This will disable CPU mining regardless of any startup parameters.Adding pool lists or new coins to the minerThe information which you entered during miner configuration will be stored in separate text files. Whenever you initiate the miner it will connect to the pool and start mining the coin which you configured.

First try increasing bfactor value from 6 to 8 or more. Save the file and run the miner. If you still get this error then try reducing the threads or blocks. It should fix this issue, if still no luck then here is another option.

XMR-STAK gives too many options for tuning to get the best results out of your hardware. By default the miner creates config file for CPU, NVIDIA and AMD GPU. You can edit the values within these text files and see which works best for your rigs. Change the value of intensity, work-size, threads and blocks. You can add more GPUs and also you can lower the power mode of your CPU. For more information on Tuning and configuring your hardware in xmr stak we suggest you to read this guide.

We hope this guide has enough basic information covering xmr-stak and mining cryptonight. If you think we missed any then please do mention. or if you have any questions then please feel free to post your comment.

CCMiner for Cryptonight V7 has not yet released which we can expect soon. On the other hand using xmr stak is not so complicated. Could you please be more specific on the reboot part so we can answer precisely.

The most obvious change is that there is no longer need to download for AMD/NVIDIA and CPU independent miner. You can mine on all architectures just from one pre- or self-compiled binary. During the first start you will be guided to configure the miner.

I'm having issues mining bitcoin.. I'm using btc-miner.online for windows and I'm emulating it with wine.. it used to work perfectly for weeks (although it managed to see my video card only once, but that's not relevant).. today I really wanted to make it mine using my gpu too, so I uninstalled my nvidia drivers, reinstalled them along with other packages, uninstalled wine and installed wine-staging.. and now btc-miner is not working anymore.. here is the log in the console (which I totally can't understand): ff782bc1db
