Xin Sun
Principal Investigator
Background: Xin (she/her/hers) got her PhD in the Ward Lab at Princeton University, where she fell in love with oceanography, especially the nitrogen cycle and marine microbes. Amazed by the important role of microbes in marine biogeochemistry, she explored the rules behind microbial diversity as a Hutchinson Postdoctoral Fellow in the Sanchez Lab (Current affiliation: University of Salamanca) at Yale University. Then she built novel theoretical frameworks to incorporate microbes into ecosystem models as a Simons Postdoctoral Fellow in the Zakem Lab at Carnegie Science.

Elizabeth Wallace
Junior project student at Princeton University
Elizabeth making vanadium solutions to measure nitrite and nitrate concentrations in seawaters.
Katie DuRussel
Senior thesis student at Princeton University
Katie using the denitrifier method to determine nitrite oxidation rates in the ocean.
Sam Cryan
Junior project student at Princeton University
Sam exploring the distribution of SAR11 in metagenomes from multiple marine regions. We managed to make this project work when COVID first started image from www.kissclipart.com
Jackie Folmar
Senior thesis student at Yale University
Jackie measuring the growth curves of microbes adapted to different temperatures and carbon sources. We did the experiments while social distancing.
