I'm Xingyu Shen, a PhD candidate in accounting at the Simon Business School, University of Rochester. I will be on the 2025-2026 academic job market, with an expected graduation date of May 2026.
My general research interests lie in the intersection of accounting and labor economics, as well as the intersection of accounting and political economy. My current projects examine topics related to labor and accounting and financial reporting quality. In the area of labor and accounting, I study how various economic forces (e.g., informational, contractual, belief-driven, or regulation-driven) shape labor markets, particularly the accounting profession. In the area of financial reporting quality, I am interested in issues such as financial misconduct and benchmark beating. My research has been published in Journal of Accounting and Economics.Â
Prior to my PhD studies, I obtained a master's degree in accounting from Cornell University, a bachelor's degree in accounting from City University of New York - Baruch College, and a bachelor's degree in financial management (bilingual) from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China.
