I am an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Iowa.
I am currently seeking for self-motivated Ph.D. students who are passionate about applied statistics, data science, and artificial intelligence. Ideal candidates should have background in engineering, statistics, mathematics and/or strong programming skills in at least one programming language (Python, R, or Matlab is preferred).

My research interests are focused on weakly supervised learning to systematically develop novel advanced data-driven analytics methodologies for complex system modeling, monitoring, and diagnosis, with applications in healthcare, manufacturing, service, etc. Specifically, my research aims to leverage domain knowledge to exploit the inherent or imposed structures within data for effectively transforming complex and imperfect data into valuable and actionable insights that support intelligent decision-making to improve system performance. My current research primarily focuses on healthcare applications, including public health surveillance for monitoring infectious diseases and disease diagnosis of sleep disorders.
