LatinXinBME promotes inclusivity, representation, and community-building within the Latinx community in biomedical engineering (BME). I am currently the Professional Development Chair (2025) and previously served as the Community Chair (2024), where I was involved in organizing events that engaged our community in discussions with successful, diverse scientists from academia, industry, and graduate school.Â
SACNAS is an inclusive organization dedicated to fostering the success of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans, from college students to professionals, in achieving advanced degrees, careers, and leadership positions in STEM. As the Treasurer (2020-2021) and Secretary (2019-2020) of the SACNAS Chapter at The Ohio State University, I was responsible for managing finances for recruitment and collaborative events, as well as overseeing communications.
LLEGA is a community of engineering graduate students who identify as Latino/Latina at The Ohio State University. As Vice President (2020-2021) and Treasurer (2019-2020), I was responsible for collaborating with other student organizations, overseeing the leadership board alongside the president, and managing the finances.
I have also been involved as a judge for the Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute Research Day (2025), a judge for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Undergraduate Student Poster Competition (2024), a judge for the Graduate Research Symposium (2024), reviewer for BioTreks (2024), a high-school peer-reviewed journal; served as a mentor and panelist for NextProf Pathfinder (2021), a series of workshops aimed at diversifying academia; and served as a panelist for the Latine Student Association at The Ohio State University (2022, 2020, 2019). During my undergraduate career at the University of Colorado Boulder, I was highly involved with the Broadening Opportunities through Leadership and Diversity (BOLD) Center as a mentor for first-year undergraduate Chemical and Biological Engineering students (2016-2018); and Engineers Without Borders - Rwanda, where I served as the Liaison to the Board (2015-2017) and worked in Rwanda as a part of the implementation team (2016) and returned as the Trip Lead (2017) to survey previous sites and discuss client satisfaction.
