This is Xiaojin Zheng. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Interfacial Water Group, headed by Professor Ian C. Bourg, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton University. I obtained my B.S. and M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from China University of Petroleum at Beijing in 2014 and 2017. In 2021, I received my Ph.D. in Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, under the supervision of Professor D. Nicolas Espinoza

My research expertise centers on fundamental research in geomechanics, geochemistry, geofluids, and petrophysics. I apply both experimental and computational methods to understand the properties of porous media in the Earth's subsurface across a wide range of scales, from reservoir scale geological faults to core scale rocks, to nanoscale clay minerals. Such multiscale understanding is required to understand coupled processes in geomaterials, and notably the couplings between thermal, hydrological, mechanical, and chemical properties. The applications of my research extend broadly in the field of geoscience and geoengineering, including carbon storage, hydrocarbon stimulation, critical element recovery, and nuclear waste containment.
