XIAODONG CHEN 陈晓东

Welcome! I am Xiaodong Chen, a PhD candidate in Public Policy at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). I am on the 2026–27 academic job market.

My research focuses on agricultural and environmental policy, climate adaptation, and infrastructure. 

Using tools from applied economics, I study how climate shocks and public investments affect firms and markets, how their impacts propagate across places and supply chains, and how the resulting benefits and costs are distributed. I combine causal inference with novel spatial datasets constructed from satellite imagery and unstructured text, including through large language models.
