As far as value for the money, these are very competitively priced. As of my writing this, you can purchase a set of two of these on Amazon for about $20, putting individual sketchbooks at $10 each. In comparison, a single Leuchtturm1917 sketchbook at this size is about $18, and a single Moleskine sketchbook is $18, as well. So you get a pretty decent sketchbook for almost half the price if you go with the Arteza.
So, do I recommend these sketchbooks? Absolutely. Given the choice, I will definitely purchase one of these over the previously mentioned Leuchtturm1917 sketchbook because the Arteza handles wet media while the Leuchtturm1917 does not. And, in comparison to the Moleskine, this sketchbook is simply much less expensive.
Great review. I prefer a sketchbook with 100% cotton rag and heavier than the normal 90 lb. So not easy to find. I know the quality of Hahnemuhle so I will be checking this out. I do like the covers to be a bit stiff and to extend beyond the paper like a book. I find the elastic bands tend to stretch out and become useless after a bit but that is not a deal breaker for me as they can easily be cut off when they cease to do their job. Creativity is the result of the thoughts existing in our brain. Sketching can quickly take the fleeting inspiration in our minds down, thus turn our quick conceptual sketches into fully finished artwork. This is why artists always like to use sketchbook (can be a book or pad with blank pages for sketching) such a core approach to assist in the implementation of their creative processes, on which they can draw and paint easily and freely.
On a housekeeping note: welcome to my new subscribers! In this newsletter I typically share what I draw during the week in my small 3 x 5 inch bound sketchbook with fountain pens and sometimes watercolor or gouache. I draw in the mornings while I'm having coffee and breakfast. Sometimes I also draw trees on a small 3 x 2 inch boards using a dip pen and ink. All of this happens on a corner of our breakfast table which looks like this right now.
Here are some sketchbook pages and some tiny portraits of my neighbor trees that I've done during the time I was sharing online about my current fine art exhibit. In the lead up to the opening reception for my one person exhibit at the Caplan Art Designs Gallery I had to keep my social media focused there\u2026 but during all of the exhibit hubbub I maintained my morning sketchbook routine because it was soothing. I just kept my sharing on the topic of the exhibit.
Now I\u2019m catching up on sharing my pages. These sketchbook pages (and the tree drawings in ink) were created on various mornings during breakfast over the past several weeks. It\u2019s been a busy time so almost all of these pages were worked on over several breakfasts.
And not only do the pencils go slow on this paper, but it takes up seemingly a lot more lead. I probably struggled through about ten pages of pencil drawings before accepting that I needed to find a better sketch combo to use. You might look at the double bookcase crammed half-full of mostly or totally empty notebooks and sketchbooks and think, just. Just use a different sketchbook. You have so many jus-JUST USE A DIFFERENT SKETCHBOOK????
