You can also update the name of you xenserver via 'xsconsole' if you had a static configuration by going through the 'Network and Management Interface' ==> 'Configure Management Interface' menu. It also prompted me wether the name label should be update.

I might need to be clearer with the NIC setup. I have 3 NICs available in the 'server'. 1 is the built in Realtek NIC, attached to the motherboard; then I have a dual port gbe card by intel attached via PCI. Xenserver was setup so the management nic was the realtek and was given a static ip. Each VM (currently four are running) where then assigned one of the two available intel NICs, so effectively all communication from the VMs to the outside world where via the intel while the main xenserver management and therefore VNC connections to the servers where by the realtek.

Certainly, on the same hardware ESXi 5.5, maxes out the transfer close to 100mb/s if I am only doing one vm to one vm (obviously the more transfers occur across multiple VMs on the same storage devices you will reach the phyiscal storage device max first) so why is xenserver struggling? Dom0 usage is very low during this time, only a single VDI is really being accessed (it is either recieving or sending data).

2) XS65 specific because centos5 is rather old - trying to find "bridging" packages that are compiled for centos5 but new enough to provide the support required. salt-minion and python under xenserver 6.5 are first to mind.

Is there any trick to supporting older hardware? I have c5220 blades which are getting on. Under XS6.5 we used OMSA 7.3.2 and it worked fine. How can I support OpenManage on dell c5220 and c6220 blades under xenserver 7 ?

For customers using XenServer 8, we have pushed an update to both the Early Access and Normal update channels. We recommend that customers update to the latest version from their chosen channel following the instructions at -us/xenserver/8/update

Hi All,

I've run into a problem when attempting to migrate VM's (either powered on or powered off) to another xenserver.

Both pools have two XenServer servers in it running version 7 and all 4 servers are at the same patch level. The main difference is that the new pool is using newer hardware.

In the old pool I'm able to migrate the VMs from server to server so long as the two servers are within the same pool. However, once I attempt to (using the move VM wizard) move the VM outside of the old pool I run into problems.

It will allow me to select the new pool of servers to move it to, it will also allow me to select the specific server which I should place the VM on, however, the "next" option is greyed out and so there's no way to continue with this process.

I've been going through the logs on one server from each pool to see if any nasty errors were thrown up, however, I couldn't see anything conclusive.

Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

The problem was because the two servers are using xenserver 7, however, on my machine I've got xenCenter 8 (Due to some of our newer servers being on XenServer8). Using a VM I installed Xenserver 7 and suddenly the greyed out option, was no longer greyed out thus allowing me to begin the migration.

1) Xen has it's own proxy of sorts that handles auth and access to each console and it's not static host/port style communication.

2) Some methods of connecting require an SSH tunnel to connect, but this seems unreliable and inelegant. The Xen API provides a method of getting the same data without the requirement of additional tunnels and logging into the host as root via SSH.

3) The connection method used by the XenAPI can be done with websockets but not all XenServers support that feature (specifically xenserver versions below 6/6.1), the noVNC solutions I've tried using do not work for the older systems in my environment.

If I'm understanding the documentation correctly the client args are passed from the user-mapping.xml, right? The xenserver API creates a session when you log in, then you select your VM and get a console reference. I already handle that using my existing client, so I'd rather not have to re-implement it in C. I need to be able to pass the session and console reference using HTTP GET attributes, that's where I'm a little lost. How do I get that down to the client? Especially without additional authentication, and preferably no need to add the xenserver host to the user-mapping.xml either. 0852c4b9a8
