I would imagine most in the Microsoft/Xbox gaming community are aware of the move by Microsoft to not change their billing prices for Xbox live gold, where they are increased them towards the end of 2020. ( -us/2021/01/22/update-on-xbox-live-gold-pricing/) When you now go to purchase Gold, the prices are normal as we all remember them being -- except something is different. As a consumer in the online microsoft store, website, or any other means you cannot purchase a Gold subscription for a 12-month period. The Microsoft store limits you to a 1 or 3 month (quarterly) purchase option. DO NOT BE MISLEAD BY THIS. YOU CAN PURCHASE A GOLD SUBSCRIPTION FOR 12 MONTHS - you just need to go through a support agent to purchase it, or 3rd party store (Amazon/Brick&Mortar). Tricky move by Microsoft to try to get a few more bucks out of folks by not giving them the cheaper option. Bet they figured ppl are too lazy to go through their support agents and will default to the 3 month option, which I believe was about $40 more a year in comparison to the 12 month yearly subscription. I asked a support agent about this, and they told me customers are no longer able to purchase a 12-month subscription on their own, it has to be done through an agent. Either agent or brick & mortar store at this point. Interesting....

I have been playing FM7 and FH3 on the PC for months with no restrictions. I have both Ultimate editions with VIP status. I decided to spend $500 on an XB1X and all of sudden my play is being restricted unless I buy Xbox live. I mean, no more on-line races, no multiplayer, limited Forzathon, etc.

IMO this is a missed opportunity, they should have just ended the gold annual pricing earlier and set it to 4.99/month (Same as annual pricing /12) (Unlike their previous failed attempt at just canceling the annual pricing and leaving it at $9.99) then rise it by $1 at the same time as the other tier making $5.99 (due to how long it have since the last rise for Xbox live it would have been more than justified).

Adding all Game Pass titles (or at least the 1st party) but with ads (like the rumored tier a while ago) and (1-6) months delay.

It should have instead been named "Live Pass" (truly the most outrageous miss of all).

They should have also added multiplayer in the standard Game Pass console so that all their offering have live gold benefits but just killed GwG entirely.

Now it would have been

Live Pass(ads supported game pass with release delay): 5.99

Game Pass Console: 10.99

Game Pass PC: 10.99

Game Pass Ultimate: 16.99

Well, that is simple, they wanted long time subscribers (3-month or more) to migrate to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as they would deliver the highest revenue/subscriber. The best way to accomplish this was to remove the price discount on the 3-month and 6-month Xbox Live Gold subscription. ff782bc1db
