Step-by-Step Backtest Guide

Step 1: Open the Strategy Tester

1. Open your MT5 platform.

2. In the top menu, click on View -> select Strategy Tester (or simply press the shortcut keys Ctrl + R on your keyboard).

3. The Strategy Tester panel will appear at the bottom of your screen.

Step 2: Select the XAU Hunter EA Demo

1. Inside the Strategy Tester panel, make sure you are on the Settings tab.

2. Click on the Expert Advisor drop-down menu.

3. Look for the Market subfolder and select XAU Hunter EA Demo. (Note: Any demo downloaded from MQL5 will automatically be stored in this Market folder).

Step 3: Configure Market Parameters & Capital

Set up the test conditions according to the recommended settings:

• Symbol: Select XAUUSD or GOLD.

• Timeframe: Choose the recommended timeframe (e.g., M5 / M15 / H1).

• Period: Select the historical data range you want to test, such as Last Year, Last 3 Months, or choose Custom Period to input specific dates.

• Forward: Set to No.

• Delays: Select Every tick based on real ticks (This provides the most accurate modeling for gold trading).

• Deposit: Enter your simulated starting balance (e.g., 1,000 USD or 10,000 USD).

• Leverage: Set it to match your broker's leverage (e.g., 1:500).

Step 4: Run the Test and Analyze Results

1. Once all settings are configured, click the blue Start button in the bottom right corner.

2. The system will quickly process the historical data.

3. Once completed, you can check the following tabs to view the results:

   • Graph Tab: Displays the growth curve of your account balance. Ideally, you want to see a smooth upward-sloping green line.

   • Backtest Tab: Provides a detailed statistical report including total net profit, maximum Drawdown (DD) percentage, profit factor, and Win Rate.
