Do these WD units need defragged from time to time? If so, what tools do I need to do it? I have searched google on this topic and never really get any solid answers about the PR4100. I see other systems and brands and suggestions for them on defragging, but not much if anything is found about the PR4100??

At first the program looks much like any other defrag tool. Launch it, and you'll be presented with a list of your drives. Selecting one displays the usual mosaic-style map of its file layout. Then click Start and just watch as O&O Defrag reorganises its files to deliver the maximum possible performance.

You don't have to use one particular defrag strategy, either. Instead, you can have your files organised by their file name, access date, last modified date and more, whatever best suits your needs. Or if that's not enough then you can set up an entirely custom layout scheme which optimises Windows, application files and your user data to deliver the best possible system performance.

As you might guess, this probably isn't the best choice for the PC novice. But it's not overly complex, either. Once you've set O&O Defrag to work as you'd like, it'll run mostly in the background, defragmenting your hard drive automatically as required, while you get on with other things. And because it's so light on resources, and can be configured not to run at all if your system is busy or other heavy-duty programs are running, it's most unlikely to ever get in your way.

O&O Defrag is a powerful and very configurable defrag tool, that will not only correct existing fragmentation problems, but also automatically optimise your hard drive in real time to prevent them from reoccurring in the future

If you never tidied your house, things would soon start to get pretty messy. The same concept can be applied to computers which, like a home, need a little bit of organization to stay in top condition. O&O Defrag Professional is a defragmentation tool that aims to give you better control of the process.

Over time, file organization in your hard drive gets "messed up", meaning that the computer has to work harder to find what it is looking for. Windows has a built-in tool for dealing with this, but some people want a little more control. O&O Defrag Professional is the perfect solution - it's easy to use, defragments efficiently and has lots of features that Windows' own tool doesn't.

On a purely aesthetic level, O&O Defrag Professional's interface is easy to navigate and displays its scans in a clear, color-coded diagram that you can customize with your own colors. Where it really shines, however, is in the extra options it provides, the most interesting being a powerful defragmentation scheduler, include/exclude file options and power and memory management options so defragmenting never puts too much of a strain on your system.

O&O Defrag Professional is pretty easy to configure from the very beginning, thanks to the Quick configuration wizard launched the first time you run the program. We also liked the possibility to set O&O Defrag Professional up as the default defrag tool in your system.

I want to do defragmentation and then auto-shutdown the computer after the defragmentation has complete. In O&O Defrag, there's a feature where you're able to execute a certain job after defragmentation is complete. I'm not so sure on how to create and utilize the Jobs, but it could be used to do a computer auto-shutdown.

O&O Defrag Pro is the professional software has the ability to defragment the hard disk and can work with the file system different from FAT / 32 to NTFS / 5, and support for the different arrays Volume / Stripe Sets. You can also set the schedule which O & O Defrag will be booted and perform a number of manipulation certain. Regular defragmentation of the disk partition optimized performance of your computer. The user interface is very easy to use. It has a ribbon bar displays all the actions that can occur in O&O.

My individual O&O Defrag

Of course, O&O Defrag Portable also gives you the option of choosing your own personal defragmentation strategy. In the classic view, you can make all professional settings yourself.

In O&O Defrag Portable you can switch at any time between the classic view with all professional settings and the modern view reduced to the essentials.

Automatic background defragmentation

The automatic defragmentation optimizes your data volumes in the background without the performance of your computer being adversely affected. O&O Defrag can be configured so that defragmentation starts automatically when a certain level of fragmentation is reached, on certain days of the week, or whenever your screen saver is active.

Interestingly, Disk Defrag Professional 4 can also use Windows' own prefetch data to optimize your file layout. Windows already uses this to determine which files need to be loaded when your PC boots and applications start, so having your defrag tool relocate those files to a faster area of the drive makes a lot of sense.

And there are all kinds of other useful tweaks on offer here. You can set up the program to delete temporary files before it begins defragging, for instance. You might instruct it not to bother defragmenting particular file types at all. There are options to reduce future fragmentation by leaving a small amount of free space after specified file types, for instance, and the list goes on.
