I'm running XAMPP on windows 8 home edition. the program installed easily and ran perfectly for about 8 weeks there was a shortcut on the START panel and on the DESKTOP. Today I tried to access it and got a response indicating the program did not exist. When I looked in the XAMPP directory sure enough there was no sign of xampp-control.exe. I hagve no idea what happened to it and my question is do I have to reinstall XAMPP to get it back or can I copy it from somewhere else.

XAMPP Control Panel is a management tool that offers to supervise the actions of individual components of XAMPP. It controls each component of the text server. The user can initiate or halt discrete modules by operating upon the buttons below the "Actions" column. Control panels efficiently manage all the components of the XAMPP package.

Something else I noticed. On all of the screen shots I have seen for the XAMPP control panel, various services are selected. When the control panel comes up on my computer none of the services are selected. I tried to auto start apache and got the following log messages in the control panel

After that, start XAMPP (i.e., the XAMPP Control Panel), stop all running services such as your Apache and MySQL server, then quit XAMPP (i.e., actually close the application, not just hide it to the system tray). Finally, rename the folder that XAMPP is installed in, for example, to xampp.OLD/.

Not only services and web front ends (might) have been customized, but also XAMPP itself. To keep it, merge the XAMPP Control Panel config file, xampp-control.ini, directly in the xampp folder. Besides making both Apache and MySQL start automatically, I define Notepad++ to be my editor of choice (for config files).

I quit Xampp when I clicked Quit from the Control Panel, but when I tried to rename the xampp folder it said it was still in use.. It was still running apparently. When I went into the task tray and right-clicked the icon, I could then rename the xampp folder.

Depending on which local environment you use, the process of troubleshooting your MySQL database might vary a bit. With XAMPP, the process is remarkably straightforward since you get access to a control panel instead of having to rely on the command line only.

If you are unable to turn on Apache and MySQL from XAMPP Control, delete the entire xampp folder from C-drive. Re-install this package and follow the directions carefully. The XAMPP Control screenshots are a bit outdated.

currently I am using sqldb but its not that great any solution is highly appreciated & I am forced to switch to windows (sorry for late reply !) @Shelomoh did xampp (control panel) open ? mine still not opening

I downloaded the 7zip file and used the XAMPP Launcher to start the control panel and it seems it is working fine. I just can't start apache and mysql services but i guess something is blocking some of my ports.

I think the portable launcher doesn't work when XAMPP folder is located in E:\PortableApps\XAMPP\App. I extracted the package in E:\xampp and i was able to start the xampp control panel.

By the way, do i need to use the portable launcher at all? Because in the "read me" file inside xampp folder it says that it doesn't leave traces in the registry and doesn't make changes in the system? Can i start the control panel directly from E:\xampp\xampp-control.exe?

BMalwarebytes Anti-Malware detects and removes sleeping spyware, adware, Trojans, keyloggers, malware and trackers from your hard drive.

If you have upgraded to Windows 10, are unable to login because you cannot restart Apache in xampp control and xampp control gives an error message that port 80 is being used by another application; that application, IIS, will need to be disabled. Follow this tutorial and clear the box next to "Internet Information Services" (IIS).

XAMPP for Windows does not include Java, which is a pre-requisite for using Apache Tomcat. If you do not already have Java installed, you will see an error similar to the below when you attempt to start Apache Tomcat through the XAMPP control panel.

Note: If you create a shortcut for xampp-control.exe then right-click on the shortcut and click the Run as administrator checkbox under Advanced Properties it will be easier to start.

Moodle 2.3 to 2.6.1+ for Windows comes with pieces of XAMPP 1.7.4. Although it works well, the version of PHP that comes included with it is buggy, lacks some key features for development such as a modern control panel and phpMyAdmin.

Now that we have everything needed to recreate the site locally, we can start working with XAMPP. The first step is to copy the files from (C:\Users\##YOURNAME##\Desktop\Backup\) into your XAMPP htdocs folder, inside of a test folder (C:\xampp\htdocs\test\).

Now that we all of our files and database setup, we need to create a virtual domain for the site. Open up C:\xampp\apache\conf\extra\httpd-vhosts.conf. At the bottom of the file add the following code: 0852c4b9a8
