I happen to have a x-rite colorchecker passport, which can be used to calibrate a DSLR by taking a picture of the colorchecker, which has 24 patches, and then using a LR plug-in, or stand-alone x-rite camera calibration software, a custom camera profile is generated that can be used in LR.

I have been dissatisfied with color accuracy of D750 for some time now.

(I have been happy with D700, D3, D3s, D800e, D850 and I use Spyder 4 monitor calibration). Finally at a suggestion of D750 club members I bought X-rite color checker passport with plugin software that I use with Lightroom. Now looking to share my experience and hear feedback from others.

The software, in theory, can be used as stand alone or as a plugin for Lightroom or Photoshop. In practice, the stand alone program cannot handle RAW files and requires DNG instead. Although one can create DNG from RAW and pass it on, I wonder if that conversion will have any effect on color accuracy. Because of this, so far, I have stayed with LR plugin.

The plugin is rather easy to use. There are some nice videos on youtube. Basically you, take a photo of the color checker card (in RAW), open it in LR, export into X-rite color checker, close and reopen LR in order for it to see the new profile.

There are some annoyances in the way LR works with color checker. As mentioned above - you have to restart LR after creating a new profile. Also, once you export something to X-rite and then go back to exporting your processed RAW images, all your settings (location, file resolution/quality/name) that LR conveniently remembered have disappeared. But that's on LR, not color checker.

In terms of color accuracy, I feel that it is now more accurate. At the same time the colors come out over-saturated. I have to dial -20 in saturation box to compensate for it. Would be nice if I did not have to do it.

Looking to hear feedback from others who tried color calibration. Maybe there are some tricks you learned over time. Maybe there is a better product than X-rite color checker.

X Rite Colorchecker Lightroom Plugin Download

Hi Hans, Presently working on xrite colorchecker card, I have two problem:

 1. same images with brightness changed at next instant, so I want to know is it just intensity or is there any other factor which should be considered.

 2. same image with different white balance. So, how would I go about these cases.

Which specific software and calibrator are you referring to? I have i1Display with HW dongle to calibrate monitors, that won't help. I have ColorChecker Passport, but that doesn't allow calibrating with 3rd party IT8 targets. I see that Xrite has this: -profiling/colorchecker-classic-family/colorchecker-i1-scanner-profiling but it can only take a TIFF file as input and not a camera RAW (DNG) file. 17dc91bb1f
