What we do in X-Lapplas

X-Lapplas is a collaborative research group led by Prof. M. Hur and Prof. I. Nam in the Department of Physics at UNIST.

Here, we explore novel plasma physics in interactions with ultra-intense lasers, extreme plasma photonics, and their applications in laboratory astrophysics.

Research topics include QED-relevant astrophysical phenomena, plasma-based sources of high-power THz, laser, X-ray, and gamma-ray emissions, compact particle accelerators, and ultra-powerful pulse compression in plasmas.

X-Lapplas is an ideal platform for theory-aided experimental study or vice versa

All students in X-Lapplas have the opportunity to engage in both theoretical and experimental research, co-supervised by distinguished plasma physicists — Prof. Hur for theory and Prof. Nam for experiment.

We offer a curriculum specifically designed to nurture students with strong physical intuition in both theoretical and experimentel aspects of laser-plasma physics and laboratory astrophysics.
