x-hale privacy policy
Effective September 14, 2026. Applies to x-hale version 0.5.4.
x-hale turns posts already loaded on X into a plain-text reading view. It
also uses local ad detection and a bundled text classifier to filter posts.
The extension processes reading content in your browser and does not send
it to the x-hale developer or a third-party service.
What the extension reads
On x.com and twitter.com, x-hale reads the current page address and content
needed for the reader: post text, author names and handles, post and link
addresses, quotes, available image descriptions, and indicators for media,
polls, longer posts and paid promotions. It reads timeline labels to select
Following on Home. The text filter considers loaded text and context; it
does not analyze images, transcribe videos or retrieve unexpanded text.
The current X address, including any search query in it, is used to detect
page changes. Scroll position and reader-control events are handled locally
to load posts and operate the interface. These inputs are not logged as
analytics or sent to the developer. The extension does not record typed keys.
Temporary session data
Post content and classification decisions remain in the current tab's
memory while the reader is active. Each session considers at most 200
distinct source posts and displays up to 20 accepted posts. For a hidden
post, the review list contains its author, original-post link, a reason and
an excerpt of up to 500 characters. Opening Hidden posts also places those
previews in temporary popup memory. A new reading session, Original view,
disabling the reader, refreshing or closing the tab clears session data.
The popup's temporary data disappears when the popup closes. No post content
or extracted author details are saved to extension storage or sent elsewhere.
Your feed is not used to train or update the classifier.
What is saved
x-hale saves the Plain text and Filter bait preferences in Chrome's local
extension storage. Earlier development versions may have left an unused
display-style preference. These settings stay in your browser profile and
are removed when you uninstall the extension.
What is not accessed or shared
The extension does not access passwords, authentication tokens, cookies,
payment information or Chrome's browsing-history database. It does not
record searches or maintain a history of posts you read.
x-hale has no analytics, advertising code, remote AI service, remote code,
or developer-operated data server. The classifier and its weights ship
inside the extension; there is no later model download. x-hale does not
sell, transfer or share extracted content or settings with advertisers,
data brokers or other third parties, or use data for lending or
creditworthiness decisions.
x-hale's use of data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy,
including its Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide the
plain-text reader and its controls and filtering.
X and links you open
X continues running underneath the reader and makes its own network
requests under its policies. x-hale changes the interface; it does not
block X's network activity or delete information X holds.
Search navigates to X with your query. Clicking an author's name or a hidden
post opens the original on X. The x-hale heading opens its Chrome Web Store
listing. Those websites receive ordinary navigation requests and apply
their own privacy policies.
Permissions and control
The storage permission saves the two preferences. Content scripts run only
on x.com and twitter.com to read, filter and simplify those pages. The
extension does not request access to every website.
You can turn bait filtering off, inspect hidden-post previews, turn the
reader off, use Original view, restrict site access in Chrome or uninstall.
Login, settings, messages, notifications and compose pages keep X's original
interface.
This policy page
This page is hosted on Google Sites. Google handles requests and provides
site features under its own privacy policy. We have not added analytics or
advertising to this page. It does not receive reading data from the extension.
