Participants are encouraged to submit a study that is currently in the design process but may contain weaknesses in the experimental protocol and methodology. We also highly encourage the submission of completed studies as they create an opportunity for self-reflection and potential for improvement of future work. This year we encourage participants to think about how they work aligns with the theme of the conference “Robots for a Sustainable World”.
The submissions should clearly state the Research Questions (RQs) and hypotheses (if any) with an emphasis on the study design and methodology sections (rather than the related work, results or discussion sections), and describe them in detail within 4 pages including figures and references. The submission should include a dedicated section with inquiries or discussion topics for the mentors regarding the study.
Recommended Outline:
The following is merely a guideline to help structure your paper. Only the "Questions and Concerns for Mentors" section is a firm requirement. The paper should not exceed 4 pages.
Introduction (no more than 1 page)
Motivation: Clearly state why this study is important.
Positioning: Briefly discuss important related work to contextualize and position your study.
Novelty: Highlight what is new or unique about this work with respect to related work.
Research Question and/or Hypotheses
Clearly articulate the goals of the study detailing the research question(s) or hypotheses guiding the study.
Include as much detail as needed for clarity and completeness.
Methodology (largest section; 1 or more pages as needed)
Hardware Overview (if relevant):
Briefly describe any hardware used.
Mention any new metrics or tools that will be introduced and their relevance to the study goals.
Study Design: (Include as much detail as possible)
Proposed Interactions: Describe the planned interactions with the robot.
Participant Experience: Detail what participants will experience during the study.
Additional Details: Include key specifics, such as:
Number of participants and recruitment plan.
Study type (e.g., between-subjects, within-subjects, or mixed design).
Overview of the planned analysis.
Questions and Concerns for Mentors [Required]
List any questions, uncertainties, or concerns you have about the study.
This section should be at least half a column in length.

Submissions will be accepted based on the detail of the methodology section, the originality of the research, and the potential contributions to the field.
The formats for the submissions are similar to those of the main HRI 2025 conference. Templates are available on the IEEE website or directly on Overleaf.
