We're Whitney Young Robotics, a program made up of students who are passionate about robotics in Chicago, IL. Originally established in 2008 as a place for students to practice their skills in computer science and engineering, our program draws in members from different ages and backgrounds, brought together by their dedication and hard work.
Over the past 11 years, Whitney Young Robotics has come a long way. We've overcome numerous challenges while fostering connections and spreading awareness of STEM in our community. We started participating in the FIRST Tech Challenge as Team 3216-Robophins. During the 2018-19 season, we added a new team to our family, FTC Team 15659-Young Droids.
Robophins is the robotics team from Whitney M. Young Magnet High School, situated on the Near West Side of Chicago. Robophins began in the FIRST Tech Challenge as Team 3216, giving students hands-on experience, teaching gracious professionalism, and providing lifelong skills. The team currently consists of 15 members from grades 8 to 12, all with varying levels of experience, different interests, and different contributions.
Young Droids is the secondary robotics team from Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. Team 15659 was established in late 2018 as a result of expanding interest in FIRST in the student body. Young Droids provides an open place to encourage students of all backgrounds in pursuing STEM. Team members learn necessary skills and develop their interests in a relaxed environment. The team currently consists of 15 members from grades 7 to 11.
