A Place of Prayer, Mercy, Refuge, Restoration, and Rejuvenation
Winning Souls for Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. We invite you to fellowship with us at Ocean of Mercy Prayer Ministry and Church
Started as a small praying ministry completely devoted to God in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
WHO WE ARE
Apostle David West, Senior Pastor
David West is the Senior Pastor, Overseer, and Leader of the Ocean of Mercy Ministry which he co-founded with his wife, Evangelist Fortune West, Assistant Pastor Mary-Anne Oke, and three other original members of the church management. David is a dynamic entrepreneur who has successfully run many companies for years. Many years ago, God called David to become a fisher of men and he answered His call, even as he ran his multiple business ventures.
As a successful business man and wonderful husband and father, David ascribes his life’s success to no other than the Triune GOD (GOD the Father, the Son-JESUS CHRIST and the HOLY SPIRIT). Since his late teens and early twenties, David learned to depend completely on GOD as he went to school in the Netherlands where he had to also fend for himself. He completed his education in Business Management and went on to start his own international clothing merchandising and other businesses. David will gladly acknowledge to anyone that without GOD, his life would have been meaningless and that he would never have had the success he has today. His Favorite song is “Never would have made it…” by Marvin Sapp.
GOD has anointed David to be a leader; but his is also a humble servant who serves the needs of others before his. He has utmost reverence for GOD and never does anything that will dishonor GOD'S Holy Word. His own personal life is a shining example of a wonderful husband and father according to God’s Word.
GOD has called David to evangelize cities and nations in Europe and around the world. Like Apostle Paul, Peter and other early disciples of our Lord and Savior- JESUS CHRIST, David has answered GOD'S call with humility, honesty and integrity. He does not look to receive recognition or accolade from anyone; he simply keeps his eyes on the Cross! He is fully committed to doing GOD'S holy work.
Evangelist Fortune West:
Evangelist Fortune West’s ministry started when she was just a child. She was raised by a GOD fearing mother who taught her the love of JESUS CHRIST and sowed early in her life the knowledge of the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST. Also, early in life, GOD'S gift of prophetic anointing began to manifest in Fortune’s life and soon it was discovered that in addition to the powerful evangelism ministry GOD had released in her, she also has the anointing of the office of a prophet. Over many years, in obedience to GOD'S spoken word through her, she has released accurate prophetic word that has blessed so many lives.
At a tender age of sixteen years, she left for the Netherlands to further her education. There, she began to learn how to depend solely on GOD and she grew even closer to Him. GOD'S grace continued to manifest in her life as she completed her education in the catering and hospitality business. It was also in the Netherlands that she met and fell in love her wonderful husband, David West, now Senor Minister and leader of the Ocean of Mercy Ministry in Cork, Ireland, Assistant Pastor Mary-Anne Oke, and three other original members of the church management.
While Fortune is a dynamic business woman and money manager, her close walk with GOD has taught her to submit to His will and to prioritize His work to the glory of His Name. After moving to Cork, Ireland, with her husband and son, Fortune acquired more skills, including first aide management; however, none of her business skills ever takes precedence over GOD'S work.
In addition to running their family business, Fortune also operates in the office of an evangelist and prophet at the Ocean of Mercy that she co-founded with her husband David West. She is also the co-administrator at Ocean of Mercy.
Pastor Maryanne Oke, Assistant Pastor and Head of Administration
Mary-Anne Oke is an evangelist whom GOD has called to win the lost. Her evangelism ministry started many years ago shortly after she received JESUS CHRIST as her Lord and Savior. She has served in different ministries with utmost dedication to GOD.
Maryanne has a BA in English linguistics and a Diploma/Masters degree in German and French. She is a Community Program and Advocacy Development Services expert, Gender and Equality Consultant, Human Resources Training and Development Professional, and Public Relations and Marketing Representative, with close to 20 years cumulative professional experience.
As part of her continued devotion to spreading the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Maryanne offers her seasoned business skills as a Human Resources expert and Administrator to help churches and ministries such as Ocean of Mercy. She was one of first individuals whom GOD called to join the Ocean of Mercy ministry and she currently serves as a volunteer administrator.
There are other members of management.

Church Ordination Based on Principles from God’s Word:
Ordination is a sacred act, affirming GOD'S call upon an individual’s life to serve in ministry. It is not merely a ceremonial tradition but a biblical practice rooted in Scripture, demonstrating the recognition of GOD'S work through an individual by the community of believers.
Biblical Basis for Ordination
The concept of ordination finds its foundation in both the Old and New Testaments. In the Old Testament, GOD appointed leaders such as Moses, Aaron, and the Levitical priests for specific tasks (Exodus 28:1; Numbers 27:18-23). These appointments were often accompanied by the laying on of hands, a symbolic act signifying GOD'S blessing, authority, and empowerment.
In the New Testament, ordination is exemplified in the selection of the apostles and other church leaders. Acts 6:1-6 describes the ordination of seven men to oversee daily distributions, showing the early church’s commitment to ensuring qualified individuals were entrusted with leadership responsibilities. Paul instructed Timothy to “not neglect the gift” given to him through prophecy and the laying on of hands by the elders (1 Timothy 4:14).
The Purpose of Ordination
Ordination serves several key purposes:
Affirmation of GOD'S Call: The church recognizes and affirms that God has called and equipped the individual for ministry (Jeremiah 1:5; Ephesians 4:11-13).
Setting Apart for Ministry: Those ordained are consecrated for a specific role, whether as pastors, teachers, evangelists, or deacons. They are entrusted with responsibilities such as preaching the Word, shepherding the flock, administering ordinances, and serving the community.
Impartation of Authority: Through the laying on of hands, the church conveys authority to the ordained individual to serve in leadership, administer sacraments, and teach sound doctrine.
Unity and Accountability: Ordination establishes the individual within the larger body of CHRIST, creating accountability to the church and its mission.
Qualifications for Ordination
Scripture outlines clear qualifications for those seeking to be ordained, particularly in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9. These include:
A life of integrity and good reputation.
Spiritual maturity and sound doctrine.
Leadership skills and the ability to teach.
A heart for service and humility.
Ordination is not based on human ambition but on GOD'S calling and the individual’s demonstration of faithfulness, character, and gifting.
The Process of Ordination
Prayer and Discernment: The church seeks GOD'S guidance through prayer and fasting (Acts 13:2-3).
Evaluation of Character and Call: The individual’s life, doctrine, and ministry are assessed by spiritual leaders.
Laying on of Hands: As a biblical tradition, this act symbolizes the impartation of the Holy Spirit, commissioning the individual to their ministry (1 Timothy 5:22).
Commissioning Service: The church publicly affirms and celebrates the ordination, committing to support and uphold the individual in their ministry.
Conclusion
Ordination is a divine acknowledgment of GOD'S work in and through a believer’s life. It is a privilege and responsibility that requires humility, dedication, and dependence on the Holy Spirit. When performed according to GOD'S Word, ordination strengthens the church, equips the saints for ministry, and furthers the mission of making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20).
