Hand sickles are primarily used for harvesting paddy (rice crop)(चावल की फसल), as well as cereal crops such as wheat(गेहूं की फसल), barley(जौ की फसल), and oats(जई की फसल), especially on small farms and in traditional harvesting where the use of machinery is difficult. They grip the stalks and separate the heads of grain.
