Hamburg Modified Swimming Expectations

Goals: The goal of the modified swim program is to develop responsibility, respect, sportsmanship and work ethic while developing and improving aquatic skills. The focus of our program is to improve the personal performance in a variety of swimming events.

Practices and Meets: All practices are mandatory. Student Athletes must have completed 10 practices prior to participating in a meet. Practice runs Monday -Thursday beginning December 2nd from 3:00 - 4:30 (Schedule to follow). An athlete MUST be present and participate in practice the day before a swim meet in order to compete. In an effort to build a team atmosphere, all team members are expected to stay for the duration of a swimming meet. The ECIC (Erie County Interscholastic Conference) rules allow for a modified swimmer to participate in a maximum of 3 events per meet. The ECIC rules prohibit from scoring modified meets. Home meets will be held at Hamburg High School.

Excused Absences: If athletes miss practice or a meet because of illness, please send a note/email when returning to practice. If for an academic concern, a student is unable to attend a scheduled practice, a note (or email) explaining the situation must be provided prior to the absence. If the student is staying with a teacher for academic support/club, the student must report back to practice with a signed pass from the teacher.

Unexcused absence: Failure to notify the coach of an excused absence or failure to attend a practice may result in the suspension from one meet or possible dismissal from the Modified Swim Team.

Transportation: ECIC policy required all students to ride to and from swimming meets on the school supplied transportation. Students who wish to ride home with their parents or legal guardian must be signed out on the coach’s sign out. The sign out will be made available at the completion of the swim meet.

Swimming Gear: Swimming goggles are required. Information on ordering a suit will be provided on the swimming website.

Coaches emails: jrich@hcsdk12.org, msalerno@hcsdk12.org. If you or your athlete has any concerns, please feel free to email.
