أولياء الأمور الكرام,
بعد التحية والسلام...
كل الشكر والتقدير لكافة أولياء الأمور على دعمكم وتفهمكم حول قرار إغلاق المدرسة نتيجة تقلبات الأحوال الجوية التي شهدناها. كما نشكر قسم الصيانة وموظفي الأمن على جهودهم لإعادة استئناف الدوام المدرسي يوم الثلاثاء.
بداية أود أن أعرب عن مدى فخرنا بطلابنا على اغتنام الفرص المتاحة أمامهم لتنمية مهاراتهم القيادية، فمشاركتهم في مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة النموذجي الذي عُقد في نهاية الأسبوع الماضي تُعد مثالاً على ذلك. فقد سنحت لهم هذه التجربة تطوير مهاراتهم القيادية من خلال التعامل مع القضايا العالمية الكبرى وحفّزت لديهم مهارات الخطابة والمشاركة في العمل الجماعي. من جهة أخرى، سررت بحضور أولياء الأمور الى ورشة العمل ومناقشة متطلبات معادلة شهادة الثانوية العامة في المنهج البريطاني. يمكنكم الاطلاع على العرض التقديمي لورشة العمل المرفق مع الرسالة الأسبوعية. كما سررت بالتحدث مع أولياء الأمور حول مجموعة من القضايا المدرسية في اللقاء الصباحي الذي أقيم في بداية الفصل الدراسي. على أن يتم مشاركتكم لاحقًا بالإجراءات الرئيسية التي تم اتخاذها بهذا الشأن.
إضافة إلى ذلك، اجتمعت إدارة المدرسة بفرعيها البنين والبنات بمشاركة أولياء الأمور لمناقشة المواد الوزارية. نتطلع قدمًا إلى إقامة المزيد من هذه الجلسات لمناقشة مجموعة من القضايا لضمان أن تعاوننا ينتج أفضل تجربة ونتائج لطلابنا وعائلاتنا.
Dear Parents,
A huge thanks again to all parents for their support and understanding during our days of closure this week following the severe weather experienced. We are extremely grateful to our support and security staff who worked day and night to ensure that we could re-open school on Tuesday.
We were incredibly proud of how our students are taking advantage of the leadership opportunities available to them. Students who took part in the Model United Nations over the weekend was a wonderful example of this as they developed their leadership skills by grappling with big global issues and going out of their comfort zone in relation to both teamwork and public speaking activities.
I enjoyed meeting parents to discuss the process of gaining the Certificate of Equivalence from the UK Curriculum. The PowerPoint from the session has been sent along with the link to this newsletter. It was similarly a pleasure speaking to parents about a range of school issues during our Tea and Coffee afternoons at the start of term. We have collated the issues raised at these meetings and will share our progress on these areas in a follow-up meeting this half-term. In addition, the Boys and Girls School met jointly with parents this week to discuss provision in Ministry of Education subjects. We look forward to further sessions like this on a range of issues to ensure that our strong collaboration as schools results in the best experience and outcomes for our students and families.

· ورشة عمل حول سياسة حماية الطفل: تتشرف المدرسة بدعوة أولياء الأمور لحضور ورشة العمل التي ستقام يوم الأحد 19 يناير 2020، للتعرف على كيفية العمل بالشراكة معكم للمحافظة على سلامة الطلبة. لمزيد من التفاصيل الرجاء الاطلاع على جدول الفعاليات الرئيسية.

· مارتن لوثر كنغ – يوم الخدمة المجتمعية: يتم الاحتفال بذكرى مارتن لوثر كنغ يوم الاثنين 20 يناير. سيتسنى للطلبة في هذا اليوم التعرف على مساهمته النضالية وإرثه في تاريخ البشرية.
· رحلة لجنة البيئة: سيقوم أعضاء من لجنة البيئة بزيارة محمية تأهيل السلاحف البحرية - جميرا النسيم وذلك يوم الخميس 23 يناير 2020. يقوم قادة لجنة البيئة بعمل رائع لرفع مستوى الوعي لمدرستنا حول أهم القضايا البيئية في يومنا هذا.
· رحلة إلى ليغولاند: سيقوم طلاب الصف الثالث (3) بالذهاب في رحلة الى ليغو لاند للمشاركة في ورشة تعليمية حول" كيفية عمل الاليات" من خلال المشاركة في تحدي العلوم والتكنولوجيا.
· اليوم الرياضي للمرحلة الابتدائية: تنظم المدرسة اليوم الرياضي لطلبة الابتدائي يوم الأربعاء 29 يناير. لمزيد من التفاصيل الرجاء الاطلاع أدناه.
· اليوم الرياضي للمرحلة الثانوية: تنظم المدرسة اليوم الرياضي لطلبة الثانوي يوم الخميس 30 يناير. لمزيد من التفاصيل الرجاء الاطلاع أدناه.
· حملة السلامة المرورية: تفخر مدرستنا بالتعاون مع جميس للتعليم للعمل على مشروع حملة السلامة المرورية، حيث سيشارك الطلبة يوم الخميس 30 يناير في مجموعة من الأنشطة التي تُعنى بزيادة الوعي حول إجراءات السلامة على الطريق.
· Aisha Javed: We are delighted to welcome Mrs Aisha Javed who joins us this term as Teacher of Science.
· Safeguarding Parent Workshop: We will be hosting our rescheduled Parent Workshop on Safeguarding on Sunday 19th January. All parents are welcome to attend this important session on how we can work together to keep students safe. Please see Key Dates for details.
· Primary Spelling Bee: Good luck to primary students taking part in the first round of the Spelling Bee next week starting on Sunday 19th January.
· Year 9 Options Event: We look forward to meeting Year 9 parents on Sunday 19th January to discuss curriculum options and look ahead to future careers and university pathways. Please see Key Dates for details.
· Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service: Monday 20th January is Martin Luther King Day. Students will be provided with opportunities to reflect on his unique contribution and legacy in world history.
· Eco-Committee Trip: - Burj al Arab Turtle Project: Members of our Eco-Committee will visit Al Naseem Turtle Sanctuary on Thursday 23rd January. Our Eco Leaders are doing a fantastic job raising awareness for our school on the most important environmental issues of today.
· Legoland Year 3 Trip: Year 3 will be visiting Legoland to take part in an educational workshop, ‘Amazing Machines’ completing a science and technology challenge!
· Primary Sports Day: Our Primary Sports Day will take place on Wednesday 29th January. Please see Sports Update below for details.
· Secondary Sports Day: Our Secondary Sports Day will take place on Thursday 30th January. Please see Sports Update below for details.
· Road Safety Campaign: We are proud to be working with GEMS Education on an NSB Road Safety Campaign. Students will take part in activities raising awareness about the issue on Thursday 30th January.

أولياء الأمور الكرام
نأمل أن يكون الجميع بخير وسلامة في ظل التقلبات الجوية التي شهدناها هذا الاسبوع. ونرجو أن يكون الطلبة قد حرصوا على إنهاء الواجبات المقررة عليهم خلال فترة تعطيل الدوام المدرسي.
الفقرة الطلابية
· فقرة طلابية لطلبة الصف الرابع (B) مع بداية الأسبوع المقبل حول أهمية اتباع العادات الصحية والمحافظة على الصحة.
· فقرة طلابية لطلبة الصف الخامس وذلك يوم الخميس 21 يناير 2020.
نود أن نذكركم أننا نرحب بحضوركم كل يوم إثنين في تمام الساعة 7.50 صباحا للانضمام إلينا في الفقرة الطلابية الصباحية، التي قد تكون على شكل عرض تقديمي للصفوف أو بعضها مقدم من قبل أحد أعضاء فريق الإدارة العليا أو من قبل الطلبة.
شراكة أولياء الأمور: ندعو أولياء الأمور إلى المشاركة في برنامج "شارك ابنك التعلم". ستقوم كل مرحلة صفية تنظيم جلسة يمكنكم من خلالها الانضمام إلى أولادكم لتجربة بعض أنشطة التعلم والتعرف على المزيد عن الاستراتيجيات المتبعة لدعم التعلم.
ستكون الجلسة الأولى لطلبة الصف السادس وذلك يوم الاثنين 20 يناير 2020، على أن يقوم معلم الصف باطلاعكم على مزيد من التفاصيل حول الموضوع.

Dear Families,
We hope you all remained safe and dry in the recent heavy rains, which meant a shorter week in school for pupils. We hope the boys were able to complete work set during the closure.
Assemblies
Next Week, our assembly is presented by Class 4B, all about the importance of being healthy. We were sorry to miss Year 5 assembly, due to school closure. The assembly will now take place on Tuesday 21st of January, 7.50am in the auditorium. We look forward to seeing you there.
Please remember that we welcome family members to all of our assemblies on Monday at 7.50am. Some are class presentations, some are presented by a member of the leadership team and some by pupils.
Stay and Learn
As part of our parental engagement strategy over the coming weeks, we will be inviting parents to ‘stay and learn’ with their child. Each year group will hold a session where you can join the pupils to try out some learning activities and find out more about the strategies used to support learning in the year group. Class teachers will share information with you about this. Year 6 will be holding the first session on Monday 20th of January.

بدأ طلبة الصفوف 7 و8 و9 باستخدام برنامج" Accelerated Reader" الذي يهدف إلى تحفيز الطلبة على القراءة المستقلة، وتقوية مهارات القراءة لديهم. يقوم البرنامج باقتراح كتبٍ تتناسب مع احتياجات الطلاب واهتماماتهم وفقًا للفئة العمرية. من جهة أخرى تم تنظيم جلسات للطلبة للذهاب الى المكتبة خلال حصص اللغة الإنجليزية، حيث سيتسنى لهم اختيار بعض الكتب لممارسة القراءة.
قام طلبة الحلقة الرابعة بحضور ندوة حول الحياة المهنية وخياراتهم المستقبلية في سوق العمل، مقدمة من قبل فريق التوجيه المهني " Lifology ". إن الهدف من هذه الندوة هو تقديم إرشادات للطلبة حول الخيارات المتاحة في الجامعة وسوق العمل. بعدها تم إجراء اختبارات القياس النفسي (قياس المعرفة، القدرات العقلية والتعلم). إن الموقع الالكتروني Lifology.com هو أول مسرع مهني في العالم مخصص للمراهقين.
Year 7, 8 and 9 students have started using, Accelerated Reader, a reading programme that aims to foster independent reading. The software assesses reading age, and suggests books that match students’ needs and interests. Library sessions have been scheduled to take place during English lessons. During which students are able to check out books. Accelerated Reader appears to be effective for readers as a catch-up intervention.
As part of guiding our students better plan their future careers, KS4 students attended today a presentation by Lifology. The platform provides our students with guidance on their options for further study at university and careers. The assembly was followed by psychometric tests. Lifology.com is the world’s first Career Accelerator exclusively designed for teenagers.

We can’t wait to welcome all parents to our Primary and Secondary Sports Day on the 29th and 30th of January.
Please ask your child which events they are competing in at sports day as many of them can be practiced at home!
Please make sure they eat healthier in the run up to sports day and drink lots of water so they are ready to give it their very best.

بهذه العبارات التي تعبّر عن حبنا للغتنا العربيّة نعلن عن فعاليات أسبوع اللغة العربية، إحياءً للغة القرآن والأجداد في مسابقات وتحديّات مختلفة تشمل مجالات متعددة من القراءة والكتابة والإلقاء. سيكون هنالك برنامج شامل بمساعدة طاقم اللغة العربية في المدرسة من أجل تنشيط الذاكرة وتعميق اللغة العربية وتأكيد هذه الهوية. وسنتوج هذا الأُسبوع بحفل ختامي يوم 22/4/2020. ترسل التفاصيل برسالة لاحقة ومفصّلة.
ونحن إذ نؤكد على ضرورة وأهمية إتقان اللغة العربية كونها لغتنا الأُم ولغة القرآن نرغب بشدّة مشاركة جميع طلابنا الاعزاء بهمة وإبداع، ونرجو لهم دوام التقدم والتألق والنجاح. كما أود التنويه بأهميّة التدرب وبشكل يومي على الكتابة والقراءة كونها المهارات الاساسيّة التي سترافق أبنائكم في مسيرة عمرهم المديد بإذن الله .
The MOE department at NSB is pleased to announce the beginning of the Arabic Language Week with many activities and competitions that include reading, writing and public speaking skills in order to celebrate the importance of the language of the Qur'an, so please encourage your children to take part in the wonderful activities that celebrate their mother tongue. Moreover, we ask students to practice writing and reading on a daily basis.
Winners will be rewarded in an assembly that will be held on 22nd April 2020.

برنامج موهبتنا: هو برنامج متميز لتعزيز مهارات " STEM " (العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات) لدى الطلاب، حيث يعتمد البرنامج منهاج تعلمي أكاديمي بمستوى جامعي وبطريقة مشوقة وفعالة.
يُقدم برنامج هويتنا برعاية مؤسسة صندوق الوطن ويقوم على تنفيذه مركز “جون هوبكنز للشباب الموهوبين". وهو برنامج مجاني يستقبل الطلبة الذين تتراوح أعماهم من 5-11 سنة، وللانضمام إلى البرنامج على الطالب الحصول على درجة عالية في اختبار التقييم المعرفي.

We would like to make you aware of a great a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programme where students are taught a curriculum at university level ‘in a fun and interactive manner’. The Mawhibatna project is being sponsored by Sandooq Al Watan and is being delivered by the John Hopkins Centre for Talented Youths. It is a free programme available to Years 5-11 and in order to be eligible for this programme, students need to score high in their cognitive evaluation test.
For more information on this exciting initiative, please see the attached flyer and register your interest at www.mawhibatna.ae. This particular programme will run during the summer holidays but students may also be eligible for a range of other programmes that they have on offer. There are a limited number of seats available so please act now.

تقرير الطالب بشير خضرا – الصف الحادي عشر (11) حول مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة النموذجي:
لقد كان الخطاب الذي ألقاه السيد بان كي مون الأمين العام السابق للأمم المتحدة ملهمًا للحضور، فقد تحدث عن تجربته في التغلب على العقبات التي واجهها خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية أثناء الحرب الكورية. وفي اليوم الثاني، قمنا بمناقشة مجموعة من الحلول والقرارات وكيفية تحسينها. أما في اليوم الثالث والأخير فقد تم اختصار مدة المؤتمر نتيجة تقلبات الأحوال الجوية، إلا أن هذا لم يمنعنا من المتابعة.
أود أن أشير إلى أن برنامج الأمم المتحدة النموذجي، كان تجربة مفيدة بالنسبة لي، فقد ساعدني على تعلم مهارات كتابة الخطابات المؤثرة، وكيفية العمل مع أشخاص لديهم وجهات نظر وأهداف مغايرة، كما تسنى لي التعرف على عدد من القضايا العالمية مثل: احتجاجات هونغ كونغ، وممارسة الإقراض المفترسة التي تمارسها الصين في جميع دول العالم.
On day 1 of the MUN we heard an inspiring speech from former Secretary-General of the UN, Ban Ki-Moon. He talked about how he overcame the obstacles he faced during WW2 to the Korean War. On day 2, we spent the day in our committees debating which resolutions are best and how they could be improved. The last day was cut short due to the weather conditions but that didn't stop us from continuing. I’d say that the MUN was very beneficial for me; It helped me learn how to write and give moving speeches, it taught me how to work with other people even when your objectives may not align and finally, it educated me about important real-world issues like the protest in Hong Kong and China’s predatory lending practices.

القصة الأسبوعية – بناة المدينة الشباب
يقوم طلاب الحلقة الثالثة بالمشاركة في بطولة بناة المدينة الشباب. تشمل البطولة أن يقوم الطلبة بتقديم مشاركات من شأنها تحسين الخدمات الحكومية ضمن فئتين رئيستين: الأولى فئة تحسين الخدمات الحكومية الحالية، أما الفئة الثانية اقتراح خدمات حكومية مستقبلية جديدة. وسيحصل كل فريق فائز على جائزة مقدارها 30.000 درهم.

Weekly Story – Young City Makers
The Key Stage 3 pupils have been researching an exciting new competition from young city makers. Here pupils need to submit an application to improve one of two government areas. They can either choose to improve current government services, or plan for a future government service.
The winning team gets to share 30,000aed.

إشراك الطلبة في الحياة المدرسية
يجتمع قادة الفرق مع الطلبة كل أسبوعين لمناقشة أفكارهم وأراءهم حول كيفية تحسين المدرسة. وقد أسفر الاجتماع الأخير، الذي عُقد مع مندوب من مطعم " Slices" إلى إجراء بعض التغييرات على قائمة الطعام وإضافة وجبات جديدة.
في اجتماع هذا الأسبوع ناقش قادة الفرق كيفية الاستعداد وتنظيم فعاليات اليوم الرياضي المدرسي، وقد تم البدء بوضع الخطط لمشروع جديد - القاعة المشتركة بين الطلبة وقائد الفريق.
الرجاء من الطلبة الأعزاء، مشاركة أفكارهم واقتراحاتهم، مع قائد الفريق وذلك في أيام الأربعاء ضمن الأوقات المحددة.
Student voice impact:
House Captains meet every other week to discuss ideas of the pupils on how to improve the school. Since the last meeting they met with the schools lunch provider, Slices, to implement changes to the break and lunch menu. Two items have been added as a result of the House Captains.
This week the pupils discussed how they would like Sports Day to run and we started plans for an exciting new project – a House Captain and student common room.

Art and Design Technology Teacher
عائشة جافد: تنضم المعلمة عائشة إلى فريق عمل مدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية للبنين لتعليم مادة تكنولوجيا الفنون والتصميم في المرحلة الثانوية.
لقد انتقلت المعلمة عائشة من المملكة المتحدة للعيش في دولة الامارات في العام 2015، حيث عملت لمدة 5 سنوات في إحدى المدارس. حاصلة على درجة الماجستير في إدارة التصميم وشهادة الدراسات العليا في تكنولوجيا التصميم من المملكة المتحدة. كما حصلت على شهادة " TEFL " التي تُعنى بتعليم اللغة الإنكليزية كلغة ثانية الامر الذي يساعد على تكوين علاقة إيجابية وناجحة مع الطلبة. تتمتع السيدة عائشة بخبرة مهنية وتعليمية متنوعة في مادة التصميم والتكنولوجيا تمكنها من مساعدة الطلبة على إحراز التقدم في هذه المواد، كما أن لديها شغف لتعليم الطلاب كيفية التصميم وكيفية التعبير بصريا عن مشاعرهم وأفكارهم.
Mrs Aisha Javed has joined GEMS National School for Boys as a Secondary Art and Design Technology teacher. Mrs Javed has moved to the UAE from the UK in 2015 to join a reputable school where she worked for 5 years prior to moving to GEMS NSB. She holds a Masters in Design Management and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education specializing in Design Technology gained from the UK. Mrs Javed also has a TEFL qualification and experience which help her to form successful relationships with the students. Her diverse professional and educational background in Art and Design Technology aids her to work towards helping each student progress within the subjects. Mrs Javed has a passion for teaching students to learn about Design and how it can visually express their own feelings and ideas

إن الالتزام بالحضور هو أساسًا نجاح الطالب، فالطالب الذي يحقق نسبة حضور تصل إلى 97٪ يعد ذلك نسبة جيدة جدا وفق معايير هيئة المعرفة والتنمية البشرية
Attendance
Attendance has a direct relationship with achievement at school. Our target for our school attendance this year is 97%. This would be judged Very Good by the KHDA. Well done to the classes with the highest attendance this week.
JEWELS OF KINDNESS
لقد تم في العام الدراسي الماضي إطلاق برنامج "نجوم جيمس في حسن معاملة الآخرين"، الذي يهدف إلى الإشادة بالطلبة الذين يتحلون بسلوكيات تمثل قيم الاحترام والإحسان للآخرين. كما تكمن أهمية هذا البرنامج في التأكيد على ضرورة تعليم هذه القيم للطلبة ليصبحوا مواطنين عالميين صالحيين.
At the end of last year, we launched the GEMS Jewels of Kindness program which seeks to exemplify students exhibiting core values including compassion, kindness, respect, helpfulness and empathy.
The aim of this program is to emphasize the importance of values education to help our children become better world citizens.
