My life's work has been to support parents, students, and adults with disabilities. The main way I can achieve this is through tutoring and coaching to provide my clients with the support they need to be successful throughout their life. By working with you to evaluate what you are experiencing and any problems you may be facing, we can work together to figure out a solution to any problem. Also, I have a vast amount of experience helping my clients with various strategies to ensure their success. I would love to help you achieve your goals and dreams! I know together we can make that happen!
Through Cornerstone Special Education Alliance, I am available as a Parent/Student Advocate. We help my clients understand the nature of their disability and then together, we work out realistic goals and ways to implement those goals. We also work on strategies for success. We also make sure my clients are receiving all the appropriate services they qualify for through IDEA and the ADA. We work collaboratively, when necessary, to ensure all stakeholders understand the law and properly implement any needed accommodations. At Cornerstone, we each have extensive experience as advocates working with IEP and 504 Plans. Personally, I have worked with the Department of Civil Rights and the Social Security Administration for clients to ensure their success. I am also a member of the International Society of Female Professionals, the leading professional association for women.
Writing has always helped me deal with my disabilities. It is an outlet for me, and unlike Math, I am really good at writing, so I have worked hard to make it something I can be proud of. Writing is a passion of mine. I love to write - about anything! The picture here to the left is of my favorite poem, "Desiderata" by Max Ehrmann. This poem is one of the most amazing things I have ever read. I live my life by one of the lines in this poem. "No doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should..." This simple phrase helps me remember that things don't always happen the way we expect or even want them to, but whether or not we realize it, everything is working out the way it should, and that helps me keep my inner peace. Perhaps it was this poem that inspired my love of writing, but I think it was something else. I believe it is the knowledge that words are wisdom and power. They can bring a person such pleasure and joy, and at the same time, they have the ability to bring a person down to their knees because of the raw and savage pain they can inflict. Words can change lives, motivate people to take action, or calm the rage inside. Words are magic and power in one. After all, the pen is mightier than the sword.
To me, words are like Magic. I am fascinated by words. To me, words are things of beauty, each like a magical spell or a potion that can be combined with other words to make powerful spells. Words have always been a source of entertainment for me, whether I was reading a book or writing my own story. I am fascinated at the way written words can say things that spoken words could never explain. Writing is a gift, an exceptional talent for those who know how to wield their pen like a sword. One of my favorite quotes, by an unknown author is, “Her sentences were icebergs, with just the tip of her thoughts coming out, and the rest she kept in her head.” It is so intriguing to me that written words can have such a powerful impact. Words can invoke strong emotions and feelings. Any person who is a wonderful wordsmith is my hero.
I am a published author, with some of the medical textbooks I helped author currently in publication. Also, I currently write for a medical company's website, offering advice to people in crisis, families or individuals who have found themselves currently in need of help navigating due to a recent disability.
