Camp Details

What you'll need:

  • A bike! We recommend a CX or Gravel bike with minimum 40c tires. A 29" MTB will suffice, but our rides are tailored to drop-bar bikes. Bend does not have many steep climbs, so any standard wide range 1X or 2x drivetrain will be adequate. We will have an on-site mechanic, but it highly recommended you come with a recently tuned bike with new tires, a fresh drivetrain and good brake pads--so your riding time is not cut short by preventable mechanical issues.
  • If you do not have a suitable bike, we can help arrange a demo bike from a local shop to accommodate your needs.
  • Sufficient bike-handling skills to ride varied surfaces from broken pavement, to gravel, to smooth singletrack trails.
  • Enough fitness to ride 50 to 100 miles on mixed surfaces 3 consecutive days.
  • Not a car. Bring a car if you wish, but camper transit to and from the airport, and all in-town trips are included.
  • Clothing: May weather in the high desert can run the gamut, so pack your arm warmers, leg warmers and a rain jacket--but pack your sun block too.

What to expect:

  • All rides will be fully SAG supported, with a follow car providing food, hydration and mechanical support.
  • GPX files for the daily riding routes will be provided the week leading up to camp. All routes will be selected for both their natural beauty and their ability to challenge and inspire riders.
  • Daily one-on-one and group guidance from Carl, Barry, Matt, and Unpaved's staff of certified coaches and professional racers.
  • Anticipate spending 5-6 hours a day riding, with the longest routes covering 100 miles (shorter options available each day). Exact routes to be determined based on existing road and weather conditions.
  • Bend Unpaved's Private 20 acre ranch is just east of Bend, and options for post ride trips to local breweries and off-the-beaten-path attractions will be offered daily.
  • Bend is a high desert environment, sitting at 3600' and can be both too cold and too warm on the same ride. May riding weather is generally excellent, but bring warm layers to drop and/or keep in the follow car.
