Strengthening Social SUpport Systems for Migrant and Refugee Adolescents in Secondary Education (SURE)

What is SURE?

SURE is a research project that aims to develop, implement and evaluate an intervention program to improve the well-being and inclusion of adolescents and young people with migrant and refugee backgrounds in educational contexts in the Community of Madrid, Spain. SURE is funded by the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, Proyectos de Generación de Conocimiento (PID2021-126886OA-I00).

Why SURE?

Governments must ensure the right to education and social support for all children, including displaced and migrant children and their families. However, sometimes school environments become spaces where inequality is intensified, and various forms of discrimination are exercised against students with a migrant background. Peers, families, teachers, and the community all have a crucial role to play in changing things. SURE draws upon the knowledge of these stakeholders and scientific evidence to assist in this task.

SURE contributes to realising the rights of children and adolescents and attaining several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including 4. Ensure inclusive, equitable and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all; 10. Reduce inequality within and between countries, and 16. Promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies.
