Have you ever been frustrated by seeing viral skincare trends get millions of views, while honest, science-backed content gets ignored? You're not alone. For the past three years, that's been my exact struggle.
It's a frustrating reality for creators like me who refuse to compromise on the truth. I've learned the hard way that the YouTube algorithm often promotes sensational, unproven content because it gets more clicks and engagement. But I believe that authentic, science-backed information—like the kind you'd find from organisations such as the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD)—is the real gold standard.
If you're tired of sifting through misinformation to find skincare advice you can trust, then this channel is for you. By subscribing and engaging with this content, you're not just supporting me—you're helping to fight back against misinformation and ensure that accurate, science-based information gets the attention it deserves.

This isn't just a problem for the American Academy of Dermatology YouTube Channel; it’s a challenge for every small creator like me who is committed to real, truthful information. And frankly, it’s a challenge for all of us who want to make informed decisions about our health. My channel is no exception. The algorithm doesn't care if my content is medically sound; it only cares about whether you, the viewer, are spending more time on the platform after watching my video. The algorithm is built for entertainment, not education. When a viewer searches for a medical question and finds the answer in my video, they leave satisfied. But to the algorithm, that quick exit is a sign of disengagement, so it stops recommending my content to others.
Okay, I'd like to make sure you understand this with a metaphor. Imagine a famous cooking competition 🧑🍳 where the judges' only rule is to reward the chef who can keep the audience glued to their seats
A master chef prepares a nourishing, perfectly balanced meal that answers a diner's specific craving. The diner eats the food, is completely satisfied, and leaves the restaurant feeling healthy and content. The judges, however, see the diner's quick departure and think, "Hmm, that meal must not have been very good; they left so soon!" As a result, they don't promote that master chef's restaurant.
Meanwhile, a gimmick chef uses a fire extinguisher to make an exploding dessert. It doesn't fill the audience's hunger, but it's so shocking and dramatic that they stay for hours, waiting for the next crazy spectacle. The judges see the long lines and think, "Wow, this chef is a star! Let's recommend them to everyone!"
Culinary Chaos (AI generated)
That's the core of the problem. Scientific channels are the master chefs, providing exactly what people need and sending them on their way. The algorithm, however, only rewards the chefs who can keep people lingering, even if the content isn't truly helpful. It's a competition where sensationalism often trumps science.
This is the core financial challenge for small YouTube channels: it's a difficult cycle to break.
Low Payouts: Even when a channel is monetised, the ad revenue share is small. After YouTube's 45% cut, creators receive only 55% of the ad revenue, and then they have to pay taxes on that.
Production Costs: This limited income often doesn't cover the basic costs of producing videos consistently.
The Creator vicious cycle (AI generated)
The Vicious Cycle: Low viewership leads to low ad revenue, which means the creator can't afford to invest in a better system for consistent video production. This lack of consistency or quality can, in turn, keep viewership low, trapping the channel in a cycle of limited growth.
I will continue to provide content based on truth like this one, regardless of the viewership numbers. Your trust is more valuable than rapid growth.
This is why this channel exists. It's a fight for truth, especially for the millions in India who earn an average of just $2,500 a year and often lack access to reliable health information. Imagine finding a voice that speaks to what matters—raw, honest, and unafraid to dive into topics that resonate deeply with you. That’s what my YouTube channel (@drsubramaniant) delivers: content crafted with purpose, not for clicks. From tackling niche issues to amplifying inclusive voices through translated videos, this channel thrives on building a community that values truth and connection over fleeting trends. However, creating this kind of content comes with a cost—production, editing, and translation require resources to maintain momentum. I'm committed to keeping this content free and accessible, but to do that, I need your help to counter the algorithm's bias.
Your support, whether big or small, directly helps this channel continue creating content. Here's how every action helps break the vicious cycle of low viewership and limited production.
You have the power to change this. Here’s how your non-monetary support helps us fight back:
Allowing Ads & Using the YouTube App: Simply by not using an ad blocker (Know more) and watching on the official YouTube app (Download), you're directly contributing to the channel's ad revenue. This is a primary source of income, and every single view matters.
Hype the Video: Your engagement is our superpower. Hyping, liking, commenting, and sharing a video is a powerful way to signal to the YouTube algorithm that this content is valuable. This increases its visibility, which attracts new viewers and more ad revenue.
Translate Videos & Use affiliate links: By helping to translate a video, you're opening up the content to a global audience. The translated document can be submitted to the social media handles listed in the About section of my channel homepage. When you use an affiliate link, you're creating a direct, zero-cost source of income for the channel, which helps cover production costs.
Your support isn't just about helping us; it's about helping everyone tired of misinformation. It’s about building a community where evidence-based knowledge wins.
If you want to accelerate our mission, your monetary support is the most direct way to break the vicious cycle. These direct contributions are the most effective way to help the channel overcome the initial financial hurdles. They provide the necessary funds to invest in better equipment, software, and research, which leads to better content.
Becoming a Member (YouTube/Patreon:) Your membership provides a reliable, predictable stream of income. This stability allows the channel to plan for the future, invest in quality improvements, and consistently produce videos without worrying about day-to-day costs.
Super Thanks or Donations via Website: Your one-time contributions are an immediate injection of funds. This money can be used to cover unexpected costs or to build a financial cushion, ensuring the channel can continue to produce videos even during slow periods.
By combining both non-monetary and monetary support, you are directly helping the channel grow, improve content quality, and achieve a financial stability that guarantees its future.
