Better understanding complex worm behavior with YOUR help

The Lu lab needs your help to understand worm behavior!

We take a lot of videos of the little critters, and most of the time computers do a great job of figuring out what the worms are up to, but sometimes they take on quirky shapes that computers have difficulty processing. That's where you come in.

We've created an Android app to manually annotate video frames the computer can't figure out. It's really easy, but we have a lot of data (>1 million frames) to annotate.

If you want to further science while you're in line for a coffee, consider downloading the app. You can go to the Tutorials page for a brief app tutorial as well.

Note: The current app is supported on Android v. 5-7 (Marshmallow, Lollipop, Nougat)

Annotate your own data using our app

If you'd like to annotate your own data using our app, the source code is freely available under an MIT license. We also provide instructions for setting up a version of the app to link to your own image data, private to you and your users. Please find both source code and instructions here: https://github.com/jiangshen/WurmPaint.
