A community and platform for young people to interact and share their passion for radio journalism and storytelling.
Our students worked really hard this summer to produce some awesome work. In between learning how to create a radio story, and experimenting with sound, a ton of great audio was produced. Our students had the opportunity to produce a feature radio story &/or a podcast. Some of their great work made it to the radio, and our Youth Podcast. Check out what they made!!!
18, Durham, NC- UNC Chapel Hill – Erin loves reading fiction books, talking politics with anyone and everyone, and making a stellar cup of tea.
For her story, Erin talked to fellow UNC Chapel Hill students as they weighed their options as on-campus, COVID Cluster numbers climbed.
20, Durham, NC- North Wesleyan College – Caitlin Legget is a published writer and poet, who specializes in black culture.
For her story, Caitlin talked to youth activist, like Nelson White, who is finding creative ways to engage with the Black Lives Matter movement. Caitlin wanted to highlight youth organizers who have taken matters into their own hands by protesting and creating safe spaces for people to stand in solidarity against a corrupt justice system and the police who enforce it.
20, Greensboro, NC- North Carolina A&T State University – Manzili passions include, spoken word poetry, environmental and cultural sustainability, and neo-soul music.
For her story, Manzili interview this generation of youth activist who came into orgainizing through their parents but are now finding their own place in the movement. Assata Goff, and Hausson Byrd, are the two artist and activist that have used their artistic mediums to speak out against injustice.
17, Chapel Hill, NC- East Chapel Hill High –
For her story, Jenny focused on herself, and her jewish faith. For people of the Jewish faith, fall is a time of self-reflection. The High Holidays began with Rosh Hashanah and wrapped up Sunday, October 11th, 2020. Jenny takes time during the High Holidays to reflect on her transition from the jewish community in New Jersey, to the smaller community in North Carolina.
18, Cary, NC- Cardinal Gibbons High - Ellie loves playing the guitar, writing, and listening to Amy Winehouse
Ellie is working on a podcast "Lunch Break", a teen round table discussion that addresses current world, national, and local issues from a teen's perspective. The first episode features first-time voters talking about issues that matter to them and how the pandemic and current social revolution have shaped the way they think about politics approaching the November election.
19, Cary, NC- UNC Chapel Hill - Maya loves binging Netflix, online window shopping, and enjoying home-cooked meals.
Maya talks to fellow South Asian youth activists about the Black Lives Matter movement, solidarity, and how they talk to their parents about their activism
