Parents can play many roles in sports: current or former athletes, coaches, fans, motivators, role models, or critics. A few studies have shown that family members may influence an athlete’s involvement and achievement in sports more than coaches. Parents also are the first and most critical agents for socializing in sports.

FAQ
What league will the teams play in?
Washington Township Youth Lacrosse is a member of the South Jersey Youth Lacrosse League and we play our Spring Games in this league. You can read about the governing body at SJYLAX (google.com)
When does the season start?
Practices will start in February / March depending on the weather. This is an outdoor sport and our season starts when it is still cold and will end in the warm. Games will start the weekend of March 15/16/17, 2025. Teams will play for 8 weeks, playing every weekend except Easter and the occasional Friday night game. The Girls End of the Year tournament is planned for the weekend before Memorial Day.
When and where are practices and games?
Practice times are set by the coaches and based around field availability Mondays- Thursdays. Practices usually last between 1 hour and 1 1/2 hours.
Scoopers will not play games against other programs as they will learn the basics in a Clinic format. Practices will take place on Saturday and/or Sunday mornings and potentially during the week for extra or makeup sessions.
Games for boys are generally:
Grades: 1/2 Saturday morning (9am-12pm) - 2 games
Grades: 3/4 Saturday afternoon (12pm-3pm) - 2 games
Grades: 5/6 Saturday late afternoon (3pm-6pm) - 2 games 5/6 A 1 game Friday Night and 1 game Saturday afternoon
Grades: 7/8 1 game Friday Evening at 7pm and 1 game Saturday late afternoon (5pm)
Games for girls are generally:
Grades: 1/2 (8U) on Saturday morning (9am-12pm)
Grades: 3/4 (10U) on Sunday afternoon (3pm-6pm)
Grades: 5/6 (12U) and 7/8(14U) on Sunday afternoons (12pm-3pm)
Away games will be played back to back and homes games will have an hour break in between each game.
How far do teams travel for games?
Teams usually stay in the tri-county area for games. Previous opponents have included: Cherry Hill, Medford, Marlton, Clearview, Seneca, Kingsway, Monroe, Cinnaminson, Haddonfield, Woodstown, and Moorestown.
What equipment do the players need?
For boys: a lacrosse helmet, a mouthpiece (must be colored not clear or white), shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, a Boys LAX stick, an athletic supporter/cup, and cleats.
For girls: a lacrosse stick, protective goggles and a mouth guard. Girls gloves are optional

Does WTYLAX require USA Lacrosse membership?
Yes under SJYLAX rules, every player must have a valid USA Lacrosse membership in order to practice and play.
Uniforms
Every player is required to wear the same matching uniform. It is the responsibility of each player to order and pay for their uniform.
