Ellie graduated from WSU in 2025 as the Vice President of Administration for WIB! During the summer before her senior year, she got to go to Chicago for an internship at Grainger MRO, and we couldn't be prouder. She is now working in the Finance Career Foundation Program at Boeing
Ellie got the chance to participate in a 10-week program at Grainger MRO (Maintenance Repair and Operations), which provided a comprehensive experience across various disciplines. The training focused on equipping inside sellers like Ellie to leverage accounts, particularly those with lower spending, by showcasing Grainger’s offerings and fostering continued business engagement.
The most valuable takeaway for Ellie was the opportunity for professional growth. Grainger exemplified what a positive company culture looks like and how to effectively utilize available resources. Ellie learned the importance of networking and building relationships, which are crucial for her career development. A critical insight Ellie gained was the importance of slowing down the sales process to truly listen to customers. By carefully considering what someone is saying, she could provide more meaningful and tailored responses, leading to better customer satisfaction and stronger business relationships.
Ellie's program extended beyond professional training to include activities that fostered personal growth and team bonding. She enjoyed outings with fellow interns, participated in a volunteer beach clean-up, and attended a Cubs game, immersing herself in Chicago culture. These experiences enhanced her overall internship and network with others.
Ellie got to move to Chicago for the summer with Grainger funding her stay. Living somewhere new for the first time was initially scary and stressful for Ellie. To make the transition easier, she put herself out there and became comfortable doing things independently. Embracing solitude and understanding that it's not bad to be alone significantly aided her in adjusting to the new environment.
Ellie advises future interns at WSU to recognize all of the opportunities available to them. To start early in seeking opportunities, particularly through networking. Cold messaging people on LinkedIn and reaching out to recruiters can be highly effective. Most people are willing to help if they see an effort to connect and stand out.
