Club Nova is Wichita State University’s premier astronomy club, bringing together students and space enthusiasts to explore the universe. Through stargazing nights, space themed events, and hands on activities, we make astronomy accessible and welcoming to everyone—no experience required.
Galaxies in the River
Large galaxies grow by absorbing smaller ones—including our own Milky Way. This image shows that process in action: the spiral galaxy NGC 1532, over 50 million light-years away, interacting with and gradually consuming its smaller companion, NGC 1531. Seen nearly edge-on, NGC 1532 spans about 100,000 light-years and resembles the well-known galaxy pair M51.
