George Wilson is one of the founding fathers of interscholastic judo in the United states, having established the first high school judo program in the United States at Kent Meridian High School in 1955. The George L. Wilson Scholarship was established in 2005 with generous donations from Kent Judo Alumni on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the first recognized high school Judo program at Kent-Meridian High School. The scholarship of $1,000 is awarded annually to any judo athlete enrolling in post-secondary educational program. The scholarship award recognizes outstanding achievement and service to the community.
The 2024 Wilson Scholarship winners were announced at the Pacific Northwest Judo Championship Tournament on Saturday, May 11. WSJI congratulates the winners, who will each receive $1,000.
