Evolutionary game theory studies adaptive rules that govern behaviour. It does so by investigating the type of strategies that would emerge from evolutionary dynamics.

The evolutionary foundation of preferences takes a reverse engineering approach. Using optimisation techniques and equilibrium analysis it investigates the situations and problems that could explain observed human preferences as the end point of an evolutionary process

Many results about seemingly strange or irrational behaviour from behavioural economics can be explained without an explicit reference to evolution with standard equilibrium and optimisation analysis and richer assumptions about real world constraints.
The Winter School is intented for researchers in economics and other behavioural sciences. It will feature lectures by leading researchers in economics to present the state of play at the frontier of the research studying the underlying causes and mechanisms behind economic behaviour.
