Workshop on Scientific Computing and Machine Learning
November 2-3, 2025
Penn State University, University Park, PA
Scientific computing has been a cornerstone of modern science and engineering, enabling the modeling and simulation of complex systems across physics, biology, geosciences, and engineering. Rooted in the study of partial differential equations (PDEs), traditional scientific computing has evolved over the past century, developing robust numerical techniques such as finite difference methods, finite element methods, finite volume methods, and spectral methods. These approaches have provided researchers with powerful tools to gain insights into phenomena in fluid dynamics, material science, and biological processes.
This workshop aims to advance the integration of numerical methods and deep neural networks (DNNs), addressing both theoretical and practical challenges. It will serve as a platform for exploring the synergy between DNNs and numerical methods for PDEs, fostering the development of hybrid approaches that leverage the strengths of both fields.
