This project gives you the opportunity to turn an idea of personal interest, related to AI, into a short audio podcast. You will want an account at ElevenLabs (a $5 fee for one month) to create work with a variety of voices. NotebookLM, to my knowledge, uses a single voice and "sounds like AI" in many cases, where this product gives you professional-level customization.
Class Day One:
I will demo how short scripts can be turned into a podcast. You'll then work independently and in groups to give it a try. I'll post my examples:
First attempt at a prompt for a podcast script about Asimov's Laws of Robotics and AGI here, then the output as a podcast here.
Class Day Two:
You will come to class to refine an existing script and get feedback from partners. You'll then have a week to finish up a podcast to share with me. Note that podcasts will be posted to this site, for anyone to see, so review the content to be sure it's what you want the public to hear.
In the second part of class, you will do a Brainstorming list to begin drafting a 350-word reflection that answers this question:
What did working with audio and AI teach you about the shortcomings and potential for a limited AI tool? Here's my example Brainstorm and Reflections. Bring in an idea from at least one of our readings to support your opinion about this project.
You can listen to the podcast and view the transcript. We have links to the scripts that students used to prompt the ElevenLabs AI
