Trauma narratives are common for queer people because the act of coming out and being queer can be traumatic in itself. Caprioglio (2021) found in her research, “Providing space for the articulation of that trauma, then, echoes the provision of space for queer coming out” (454).

So why do we need these trauma narratives in queer media? While sometimes some storylines can focus too much on trauma, in these cases I think they help validify the experience of many queer people. As much as it hurts to admit, being a person is difficult, but adding aspects that make you different or stand out can make being a human being even harder.
