This meeting coincides with a total solar eclipse that will take place during the sunset of August 12th. As part of the social program, we will travel to Saldaña: a village located at the center of the umbra, with a totality of 1 minute and 47 seconds (from 8:28 pm to 8:30 pm) and a total duration of 1 hour and 47 minutes (from 7:32 pm to 9:21 pm).
We will spend the day around Saldaña, a village dating back to the Roman Empire and of utmost strategic importance during the Spanish Reconquista, preserving many medieval constructions. We will visit the nearby fourth-century Roman villa La Olmeda and the 11th-century Saldaña castle. The trip will end with a historical tour in the village itself, to then join our local astronomy guide, who will assist us during the eclipse.
