Privacy Policy for Write Search
Last updated: 26 July 2026
Write Search is developed by Aaron Prais. This policy explains what the app
accesses on your device, what stays there, and the one thing that doesn't.
The short version: your contacts, your installed apps, and your handwriting
never leave your phone. The only information that goes anywhere is your
device's advertising ID, which Google AdMob uses to show ads.
CONTACTS
Write Search asks for permission to read your contacts so you can find
someone by handwriting their name, and then call, text, WhatsApp or email
them with one tap.
The app reads names, phone numbers and email addresses. It keeps a copy on
your device so that searching is fast, and remembers which number or address
you prefer for each person when they have more than one.
This information is stored only on your device. It is never uploaded to us,
never sent to any server, and never shared with anyone.
If you would rather not grant contacts access, you can deny the permission or
turn contacts off entirely in Settings. Handwriting search for apps will
still work.
INSTALLED APPS
Write Search reads the list of apps installed on your device so you can find
and open them by handwriting their name. As with contacts, this list is
stored only on your device and is never uploaded or shared.
HANDWRITING
Handwriting recognition runs entirely on your device, using Google ML Kit
Digital Ink Recognition. The language packs are downloaded once from Google
so that recognition can work offline.
What you write is never sent off the device. Your ink strokes are recognised
locally and then discarded.
CALLING, MESSAGING AND EMAIL
When you tap to call, message, WhatsApp or email someone, Write Search hands
the phone number or email address to your phone's own dialler, messaging app,
WhatsApp or mail app. Write Search does not place calls or send messages
itself, and does not keep a record of who you contacted.
The app requests permission to place calls so that tapping the call button
dials directly rather than making you confirm in the dialler. You can deny
this permission; the app will simply open the dialler with the number filled
in instead.
ADVERTISING
Write Search shows banner ads supplied by Google AdMob.
To serve and measure those ads, Google collects your device's advertising ID
along with technical information such as your device type, operating system
version, and approximate location derived from your IP address. This is
handled by Google, not by us, and is governed by Google's own privacy policy:
https://policies.google.com/privacy
Your contacts, phone numbers, email addresses and installed apps are never
shared with Google AdMob or with any other advertiser, and are never used to
build an advertising profile. Write Search requests ads without attaching any
information about you.
You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in
Android Settings > Privacy > Ads.
CONSEnT IN EUROPE
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Write Search asks for your consent before showing you personalised ads. The app requests no ads at all until you have answered.
If you consent, Google and its advertising partners may use your advertising ID and the technical information described above to personalise the ads you see.
If you decline, Write Search still shows ads — the app stays free and ad-supported — but they are not personalised, and no advertising partner is given consent to use your data to build a profile of you. Some partners may still process limited data on a legitimate-interest basis; the consent form's Manage options screen lets you object to that separately.
You can change your answer at any time from Settings → Ad privacy options inside the app.
DATA WE COLLECT ABOUT YOU
None. Write Search has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics and no crash
reporting. We receive nothing about you or your device.
DELETING YOUR DATA
Everything Write Search stores is on your device and is rebuilt from your
device when needed. You can clear it at any time:
- Settings > Clear default numbers and emails removes the number or address
remembered for each person.
- Settings > Clear smart search data removes which contacts and apps you use
most.
- Uninstalling the app removes everything, including the cached contact and
app lists.
Because nothing is stored outside your device, there is no copy of your data
for us to hold or delete on your behalf. The app also switches off Android's
automatic backup, so your cached contacts are not copied to Google Drive.
CHILDREN
Write Search is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly
collect any information from them.
